I tried to by a laptop today but it always includes windows. This is "standard oil" methods. Futher I can only get the Spainish version since I live in Spain, like everyone in spain uses spainish. Catalan, basque and the other languages down the drain by microsoft. Microsoft totaly lots touch with clients.
I will not pay "Bill the Robber" a dime so is there a sit where I can by a laptop thats clean?
3-4 years ago this was not a problem in Spain. Im going to write the comission.
i know you can refuse to accept the windows agreement and request your money back for the license, but that is a long battle and usually not worth it. i could also say search the local pawnshops too if you don't mind used. pljvaldez gave a good link, worth looking into. other than that, i'm out of ideas. seek and ye shall find dear friend. good luck in your quest.
DON'T turn the computer on, and send it to microsoft. Ask them to remove becuase you hate windows. Or just ask them to remove it. You should get your money back.
i agree with dogged28's suggestions ... that should be the way to install only linux in your case ... shouldnt be that hard ...
as for that "You should get your money back" issue , for me i would try not to hurt those "smaller shops" as businesses
are "viral" in practice ... maybe its very hard for them to avoid ...
if there are enough demands for a linux only machines , "smaller shops" will be the first one to have them on the shelves ...

Is this wishful thinking, or do you know that this works? I would guess that a shipment to Microsoft would be returned unopened....
(Oh, maybe it was a joke....sorry)
Actually, would it be a fun little project to have everyone start calling Redmond and innocently asking "How can I buy a computer without Windows." and "Will you refund for Windows if I never use it?"
??
it would be decent project that may get some great responses worth posting here. any takers? i'm sure infoworld and redmond and networkworld would be interested in those requests.
kalleanka, this just basically boils down to use your best judgement and choose the path that is right for YOU. all we can do here is give you our opinions and provide you some links that are actually worth reading. keep in mind though that if you buy from a pawnshop, your paying the store owner and not bill gates. some other poor soul paid gates and then left the laptop for you.
i wish you luck and please let us know how you do.
Agree. I think dogged28 has the best solution. There must be some kind of "IT disposal" stores around or auction sites that sell used machines. How about the Spanish equivalents of "swap meets"? Have you contacted your local LUG for places where used laptops are sold? They could also point out any shortcomings with various models. My own Linux laptop was a company-expensed Compaq job that I've now loaded Kubuntu on. It was nicely spec-ed (1GB RAM!!) and all I need to do is replace the HDD if I find I'm running out of space...had a 40GB 2.5" HDD just sittin' around doin' nothin' (ripped it out of our Dell to replace with a 100GB)...it's now connected via USB so now I have 70GB hard.
Good luck!

I have decided that I will write the europen union since microsofts policies are aginst the antitrust laws we have here. Intel just got in to court agains the europeen union for the same resone "using your dominance".
Thanks all. I will by a laptop from one of the stores that was provided from the links above.
