I had a slip of the memory. Actually, THIS is the last metal album I fell in love with.

I also loved this one, which came out around the same time as Lorengard's album:

As for death metal? Everything by this label and this band is essential. Their first three albums especially; by their fourth they started doing the "modern" mastering.

I'm not really sure honestly, it seems rather borderline and metal-archives says this.

Started as a heavy metal band but soon morphed into hard rock. They were accepted based on their early career, especially their The Yellow and Black Attack debut EP.

Note that their rules require the artist release only one single metal album to be included, the rest of their discography could potentially be something entirely different.

Seriously I was hoping for a punk thread.

And here's something a little bit earlier - Budgie - great metal/hard rock from the early '70s:

Glory days is pretty good, I think Black Sabbath was in their prime during the first 7 or 8 albums, after that still very good but lost a little edge. A bit like comparing U2 War album to the stuff they put out now. They went from punk to pop/commercial.

Good stuff finding Budgie, forgot about them..

The first album is still my favourite, recorded in only one day, it has a nice raw sensibility that other others don't. But yes, their early period is amazing.

They were a running gag in my circle of friends.
Someone had a tape and it was the game to load it in a parked car stereo or autoplay double-deck so when it came on you had been Stryper'd.

Very nice death metal with a tinge of black in the vocals/melody. However, the best thing about them is their album artwork. Some nice pieces there.

While we're on the subject of blackened metal styles, here's some melodic blackened thrash via Desaster:

Possessed and Defiled

I really enjoyed that, didn't she used to do growls or am I imagining that? Not on MA though... they are picky, aren't they.

Alwyas loved that album - not on Spotify though, weirdly enough. I thought it would be, it's such a classic.

And while we're talking about death metal... we can't not include this:

Carcass is another band I never stopped to listen to any of their albums despite knowing and liking at least some of their music. I should fix that sometime...

Sticking with Finnish metal.
