MEPIS Is greatest Distro for windows users and no hardware struggles

Hello,

I was looking for a distro that is great move for microsoft windows users for my dad.

I found MEPIS:
This distro has advantage that it is easier than windows, since all drivers for any kind of hardware are in!!

Nothing to install since all drivers are embedded. To install a printer, you dont even need to struggle with Root and password. The user just kcontrol and the usb printer is found, and really working ! That's amazing.

Programs are not crashing, very stable, and this is very different to Ubuntu where you are on the cutting-bugging-edge where nothing is working.:)

I tried all kind of webcam, and they also work!! Detected. pendrives are appearing and it is so easy to unplug them/release. It has also ktorrent. A dictionary corrects your english in Firefox, even. !! Amazing!

MEPIS development is very serious, at any sights. Congratulations to the development teams.

The livecd has even Skype and detects all type of cards. Wifi is also working on any machines. Livecd has also xara, kopete, ... amazing job on a single 700mb cdrom. In the boot, one can select r/w 1gb and one can apt-get install programs (Debian based).

To summarize, long life to distros like MEPIS, stable and seriously developped !!!

Happy Tux, in travel

Yes, Mepis is quite the distribution. Probably would have a larger user base had they not switched from Debain to Ubuntu to Debian again.
None the less, it is quite a system and I really enjoy using it as my main desktop system.

I'd recommend Linux Mint for new users instead.

Mepis will always have a special place in my Linux heart, though, since that was the distro that won me over three years ago... even if I stayed with it for only a month before switching completely to Ubuntu.

I've used - and continue to use - lots of different distros.

But if I had to recommend any one distro to a new user - I agree, it would probably be Mempis.

IMHO .. PSM

MEPIS is built off of Debian/Ubuntu, so why use MEPIS if you can just use Ubuntu?

"Why use Mepis if you can just use Ubuntu"

For starters, for those using wireless, configuration is very easy in Mepis. Whilst Buntus do have some wireless capabilities ndiswrapper and wpa will require command line use.

Mepis is not built off Ubuntu. They had one version based on Ubuntu and the developer decided Debian was better and switched back.
