Marijuana and Linux

Yesterday I set aside about three hours to install some new app's, write some basic scripts and get vsftp working properly. Then my friend stopped by and offered me some pot which I proceeded to smoke. After he left I thought no way am I going to get anything done on Linux today. I sat down anyway and starting working on it and to my surprise the pot didn't seem to affect me at all and I got a lot done. Does pot affect your ability to perform basic Linux operations?

I don't know. I think you're being a little too conservative. Pot is less harmful than beer and people talk about that all the time.

*sigh*

if anybody needs drugs to be happy and to enjoy themselves/relax, i feel sorry for them. IMO drugs are not ok, and neither is excessive drinking.

agreed with MegaMan, this thread should be deleted. If nothing more than to protect my own sanity and to stop me from randomly flaming those that take drugs

Thanks Tesl.

@starchie

Perhaps it's less harmful and etc (indeed, peoples who use, must to say it's not bad and how other things are worse, so at the end, they look good...gheh). But this is a very polemic subject and WAY off topic here, even for a General Forum/non Linux related.
Call me conservative, but I stopped taking drugs (read Windows) and I take only natural juice now (read Linux). Sorry, it's nothing against you, which btw, I've not seem you around before, nor against peoples who like that "thing". I just think it's way too off topic/polemic and might/will generate useless fights/taunts. But this is up to the mods to judge. Just my two swedish crowns

Why should it be deleted? The posters from Amsterdam must be so confused. This is a world-wide board and not everybody's got as stupid laws as the US does in this regard. Interesting how you say "smoke pot" yet qualify "excessive drinking". We practically force-feed little kids Coke (Coca-Cola) and it's a drug. And tea and coffee. Y'know, Mormons think you tea-drinkers are crazy heathens for ingesting that caffeine - it's a sin. And cigarettes and alcohol and pot and prozac. It's all drugs and just randomly PREscribed or PROscribed or indifferent. starchie just asked a question. If you've tried to operate a Linux box while stoned, answer. If not, say I dunno.

I dunno.

See, that's exactly my point of view. It's polemic and will generate fights. Like lighter drugs are allowed in Netherlands (in fact, everything seems to be allowed there...) and forbidden in other areas, but still controversial everywhere.
Well, I've used Linux while drinking a lot of Coke. I didn't feel anything, but I had to pee a lot . Maybe that's the collateral effect of Coke

please dont' bring religion into ANY topic...i will say quickly and briefly that i don't believe in religion as i think its a total brainwash so what you say about these cultures believing this and that about tea is just plain stupid talk to me...you will never get anywheres bringing religion into a topic...so keep it at that...
anyways as of the topic, it should be closed, cause its down to earth stupid and drugs have different affects on people...so if you go smoke some pot and you can't remember the ls command or if you think that your smarter then before you smoked it then thats your problem, and no it doesn't affect you...it affects you mind to think your a genious, and i doubt anyone cares for that matter....this may be a worldwide board but theres no need for something as stupid as " does smoking pot affect my linux skills" ....

In Canada we are going under a bit of a leftist reform lately... Marijuana is no longer for 'druggies'. Personally I'm a little pissed off at people who look down on recreational users. Like said above, it's not much worse than the amounts of Coke kids drink these days. It just gives you the giggles, not to mention superior programming skills. If you don't believe me, light it up!

J/K, program responsibly.

That was my whole point - it ain't controversial unless people with limited viewpoints wig. And how was my bringing up religion 'just plain stupid talk'? It's a simple fact: Mormon's believe it immoral to ingest caffeine. If you're going to wig about pot then you should wig about caffeine in respect to *their* sensitivities. But you don't - you expect them to tolerate discussions about caffeine. So tolerate the dude asking a question about pot.

Have you *seen* that thread about beer? Cliff Claven's theory on killing brain cells? But that's cool to you - nobody wigging over on that thread.

Which is only right - the Claven thing is hilarious. But, by any logic, you should be up in arms about idiots killing their brain cells, whichever method they take, right?

Ugh. Just relax.

the only thing i am wigging out about is the plain and simple fact that this thread exists, i don't care if you are some idiot and you smoke pot, and i don't care if your some idiot that drinks coke...and i definetly don't care if some morman don't like caffiene, thats actually something that gets me going, and if i had a morman in front of me right now i would have a caffiene party....
this is why you don't bring religion into discussions because then you will have someone like me making a comment like that...
and its just as right for me to say what i said, as it is as right for what you said....religion corrupts the world, and its a fact..
so seriously if you young grasshoppas wanna continue to talk about some dried up grass that you inhale then go right ahead but keep it on the topic...

That's so true. Go and use all drugs around and show how stupid the american laws are . lol.

I agree totally with DrOzz. In fact, everything that generates differences between the mankind, brings down to problems. It's religion, it's money (specially), it's drugs. I wonder if the world will ever change to a place where everybody has the same amount of money/rights and no more childrem eats garbage in poor countries to survive and no that peoples stop killing each other for their religions and beliefs. Everybody relax, sing, and think about this genious who wrote this in 1971 if I'm not mistaken:

Imagine there's no heaven,
It's easy if you try,
No hell below us,
Above us only sky,
Imagine all the people
living for today...

Imagine there's no countries,
It isnt hard to do,
Nothing to kill or die for,
No religion too,
Imagine all the people
living life in peace...

Imagine no possesions,
I wonder if you can,
No need for greed or hunger,
A brotherhood of man,
Imagine all the people
Sharing all the world...

You may say Im a dreamer,
but Im not the only one,
I hope some day you'll join us,
And the world will live as one.

Keep using drugs, keep fighing for religion and forget about the world's true problems.

I suddenly feel as if I'm the only one on this thread who *isn't* on drugs.

My sole point was to advocate logical laws and friendly attitudes and freedom of speech. I was not advocating or condemning drugs or religion or whatever else came up. I was arguing against intolerant and oppressive demands to delete a question. I tried my best and I'm done.

lol, digiot wasn't talking about *religion,* he was making a point about how what's considered acceptable is cultural, and therefore also relative.

notice that as soon as the evil POT is mentioned, people start chiming in to say close the thread. but pot is legal in some countries where linux is used, so imho it's a legitimate question on an international linux board.

otoh, alcohol is illegal to minors in the US, but when alcohol is mentioned on a board that has minors no one clamors to shut down that thread. how come? why the double standard?
