I just read that Sony had to pull their display of the playstation2 from display at the Cebit because M$ didnt like it.
I wonder if Sony will have to drop their plans for the Linuxkit for
the playstation, too.
Maybe Sony and M$ are going at it now - that should be fun!!
i don't think that sony would have to drop the linux project since linux is open source anyway, and who wouldn't mind another MS lawsuit, I know i am enjoying seeing microsoft getting sued by Be, Sun, and the other one with 9 states against microsoft. Sure would like to see that.
I dont think it would interrupt their plans for the Linuxkit, because they did already release it in Japan, so why not here?
But I wonder why M$ would have a problem with them going to the show?
And in all seriousness, I think ony could take M$ down. billy makes bank, but Sony makes more. That company is so diversified it makes Philip Morris shutter.
i can't see anythign really affecting the linux kit release. i read today that the initial 2000 copies of ps2linux sold out in like 4 minutes, and the 10,000 "reissue" went pretty fast, and they've had 28,000 orders in advance in america. i think they're the right numbers.
Let me give you some more Info on that thing.
It seems that M$ didnt like the playstation being there for whatever
reasons.
Then they checked the contract with the cebit organizers and found some obscure article in there that states that the cebit is a show for computers and not for toys - basically.
So they demanded Sony pulls it.
show him anything thats got microsofts name on it, and a product that compares to it. Such as...
Windows OS V. Any other
or
MS Mice V. Logitec
Ask which have lastability, stability etc. Then ask if he wants a console that is prone to crashing, unproven as yet, but history indicates that MS believe that getting a product into the market is more important than making it good first ie Windows 95 (and it still dont work right, see ME).
Also, the PS2 is cheaper (here in europe anyway) and has loads more games. PS2 is tried, tested and worthy. If Xbox fails, no one will be creating games for it.
Or tell him to get a PC with a broadband inet connection because they have better/more games anyway. Albeit the expensive way to go.
Sony appears to be tied up quite tightly with MS as all their new PalmOS devices are ONLY supported with Win platforms. NO Mac and NO Linux for you. My new Clie can only be backed up on my machine with the memory stick reader I had to buy. Seems kinda wanky to have to install win98 just to do a hot sync.
I actually think that the only reason Sony put this kit on the market is to annoy M$ because they are trying to cut into Sonys playstation marketshare. Whatever is going on with handhelds is something I really dont know - but I would imagine that the contracts with M$ are about as restrictive as with PCs. If the xbox keeps selling real bad M$ is probably going to pull the plug on it and Sonys gonna pull the plug on the Linuxkit so everybody is back to their coremarket.
