"Dude, you can do things (using a computer, or not ...) that ought not to be done, and you can say things (in public places, or not) that ought not to be said." And if you don't know that by, say, age five, then you should be prepared for law enforcement officers to do their job to protect the public and to get to the bottom of the matter ... first.
If you act in a manner that gives reasonable cause to believe that you may be acting -- or intending to act -- like "a dangerous criminal," and/or "promoting criminal activity," then it is indeed their job to investigate. Yes, you might be detained, and (if you don't fight it) you can expect (in America, at least) to be treated as the "presumed innocent" person that (of course ... of course ...) you really are.
But, I gotta say: "you did this to yourself, you stupid moron!"
As for Mr. Reiser, he learned what happens when you fool around with the Russian Mafia. Amazingly enough, I believe he is still alive. He should be counting his lucky stars that he's not feeding fish in the Volga.
So, let's see, based on what we can easily look up:
Ian Murdock - Announced he was going to commit suicide. The said he wasn't...this was after being arrested for attempting to break in somewhere, while drunk, booked on 4 misdemeanor counts, AND RELEASED. http://sanfrancisco.cbslocal.com/201...ncisco-police/
Hans Reiser - convicted murderer, told police where his wifes body was buried, in exchange for a reduced sentence (2nd degree murder, down from 1st):
...and on that blog you quote, it says he's being treated fairly, to quote DIRECTLY FROM IT: " Ish mentions he is being treated fairly in police custody. "
Guess what? If threatening emails to the President came from my account/IP address, I'd be arrested and investigated too. So what's the basis of "he's been framed"????
