looking for a particular old scifi movie
[SOLVED]
i ran across an old thread asking for old movies on YouTube. i just did post the URL for 20000 Leagues Under The Sea (1954). i remember seeing it when i was little, in a theater. my parents loved to go to movies back in those days (and took me along as i was their only child at the time, probaly about 2 or 3). that got me thinking of one i saw way back when that i cannot remember the name of (nor can i find any hint of).
in this movie there was a lab that seemed to be trying to view the past or alternate locations on a large screen they had. i recall the screen being on or part of a wall. one time a lot of things like fire or explosions or sparks happened and the screen settled on a scene that got the attention of the scientists in the lab. they went up to the screen and discovered they could step through it. the movie scene then showed a view from the other side with a "screen" floating in the air with the lab visible through it and people coming through. then the "screen" just disappeared with the scientists having no way back to the lab.
no, this was not Star Gate (was a lot older)but might have be a suggestion for it. this movie could be from the late 1950s.
i tried finding a list of old scifi or time travel movies but so far have not found a decent list. i'm wondering if A.I. could find it if trained on the movie scripts. or does anyone recognize seeing such a movie?

I was going to suggest simply looking at a list of movies from the 1950s - there can't be too many of them, right?

O_o That's 13 movies every day for a decade!?
Still only " 165 of those were released in the theater" - that seems short enough for someone to scan the titles, and there's other lists for 60s and 70s...

Wasn't a Star Trek episode sort of like that? I recall it was based on some other like you mentioned.
Can you recall any music or location or actors that might be a clue?
The time you were watching this is a clue we might need.
When I was 3 I don't recall much.

Oh yes, I just watched that in the last 2 years. I like getting/watching the older movies. It was a man working on a time machine. It showed a different time on the other side of the screen. One of them walked through the screen, then others followed. Then the machine broke, and they were stuck there. And. there were mean cave like people there. That chased them.
Let me look through my collection, notes, index... I'll find it. I might even be able to link you to it.

There was a TNG episode called Contagion that was similar.

definitely not "time tunnel". i remember that as a series on ABC. they would have lots of effects and little explosions in the "tunnel" with a scene change to where the (usually 2) men would appear.
this was a movie seen in a (maybe drive-in) theater, not an episode of a series. i saw it in color, and we did not get a color TV until 1969 (at least it wasn't a roundy).

It was a movie. It had a "Fail" score on imdb, and appears to have vanished without trace.
I have a vague recollection of trying to watch it on tv as a teenager. I was into Dr. Who and what passed for Sci-Fi then. It was too bad for words and every promise in the trailer got a 'damp squib' excuse for a fulfillment. In fact, the best thing about that movie was the trailer. There DEFINITELY wasn't a sequel. Groucho's line applied:
