I have to agree that Linux is moving fast, but also it has a lot to do with the fact that Apple has released Jaguar, Panther and Tiger in the past three years and we have not seen anything from M$ since XP was released. M$ is feeling a lot of pressure from Apple (and LINUX) especially since Apple is moving to the Intel platform. They have more than than the Linux threat to look out for now.

You know what M$ problem is?
They have so much staff, but nothing for them to do;). Anyways, I think win 98SE was the best of all the releases M$ has had, they just add more junk to it, and now they have this wonderful creation called Vista...

Works just as well. Now, excuse me KDE lovers (I know you are not), but I'd choose Windows interface anytime over KDE. KDE just has to be the prettiest and slowest environment I've ever used. I'd always choose performance and stability over eye-candy, and eye-candy, instability and slowness is what KDE is all about. It feels more stable then Gnome, however...


Nope, actually every MS-DOS based system MS did was crappy(95, 98 and ME. Win 3.1 is not even an OS imho). They actually used DOS to keep backward compatibility. However, every NT-Based OS they did (WinXP and 2000) are way superior Operating Systems in terms of user management, stability and security. Can't understand how you got there where 98SE was the best one ^_^.

It might be more accurate to say that Apple, and certainly Linux, can do it faster. It simply does not work for Microsoft to put out a press-release, "X" years ahead of time, and promise people "how good it's going to be" and expect them to actually sit and wait for it.

Either:

• They don't really need it anyway, or ...
• Linux has already done it! :D

I was always more of a Win2kPro person too.
As for virtual desktops, MS has a tool that will do that. See Windows XP Power Toys.

Sadly, VirtuaWin can't install on my work PC, and the "Windows Power Toy" is just a joke. . . Ah well, maybe Vista will have decent virtual desktops :)

About the virtual desktops : oneandoneis2, if you have an nVidia graphics card, I believe it's possible to have multiple desktops using the software that's included with their drivers ...
