Linux courses in public schools/colleges

I wanted to let anybody in or near my area know that Fleming College (Peterborough, Ontario, CANADA) is offering a 10-week introductory Linux course starting April 20, 2005.

This is something new that the college hasn't tried before and it's in the part-time adult education department. Is anything similar happening at your local college or high schools?

Nope, M$ dominates. Its rare to see a Linux course offered anywhere. Usually they are introductory.

Sad really, considering that Linux is free, and all those students could simply exchange disks,... They'd save a fortune on the software and development tools.

M$c dominates ! ! ! That depends upon the school or college authorities who is going to implement it in their schools. We have contributed in making a distro named Gnoware, specifically keeping in mind for school children, with all the educational packages that can be fitted in a 700MB CD. Right now we don't have the link for download but will soon provide with it one. One can browse through the site.

Hi
here in France, the Ministry of Education has just signed a partnership with Mandrake to implement
the use of Linux in technical colleges. That's good news !
In my school (I teach in a junior high), people do not know Linux except for 2 or 3 colleagues
who do not want to use it because "it's hard !". Well that's the situation !
I am all alone there, but I don't mind. I just laugh when they swear against Micro..t !

At the technical college that I attend they have Diploma, Associates and Bachelors degrees in Linux/Unix Administration which I am currently enrolled in. As for Highschools that offer Linux based learning I have no earthly idea.

Great to hear about France! And Georgia, too. Have bookmarked Gnoware. Thanks for the heads up.

Not at our school....MS everywhere. I do think it's changing though. Walked into a class last semester (so economic engineering class) and each desk had 2 computers and a KVM and there was a poster on the wall that had the Linux kernel.
