Linux based hosting in California?

Can anyone recommend a good hosting company that based in California and has MySQL >=4.1? Right now I'm with 'A Small Orange' and though they're a decent host, I run a site that's California specific so I'd like to get a away from routing all of the traffic to Georgia and back. PHP 5 would be nice but not as important as MySQL. I'm looking for standard shared hosting right now but will be moving to (virtual) dedicated hosting eventually so that might be a factor as well.

Thanks!

Dunno what version of MySQL they're running, but perhaps you might take a look at Omnis They're in Torrance, and seems pretty Linux-friendly. As an aside, I likewise am looking for a CA-based hosting outfit, and found Omnis via a link on the LQ Home page. (Note that I am not a current customer, but as I've been doing some research, they're looking OK) If you find anything interesting, please post back

I sent an email to Omnis and they're apparently on MySQL 4.0.2.2 so no luck there. They also don't seem to offer anything beyond the standard shrared hosting.
VR (vr.org) seems like they could be good and are right up in northern California. I saw their link on gentoo.org and they claim to be on MySQL 4.1 and seem to have a good variety of plans.

Why must they be based in California? Why not just get a host that allows you to remotely control your stuff using cPanel?

I'm looking for something local mostly to try and keep the latencies down and speeds up. From California to Georgia is over 2000 miles for that data to travel. It probably wont make a huge amount of difference but I like to be efficient

Also there's the issue of time zones. I've been converting in php and mysql but it's not the optimal situation.
And, yes, cPanel (or a similar tool) is another requirement but that's usually a given I think (unless you use godaddy).
