Can amyone suggest a portable mp3 player as an alternative to the iPlop, which has more than 32GB of portable storage and ideally runs Android/Linux.

A screen to display the track, cover album and controls would be nice too.

I am not looking for a phone, but a high capacity portable solution.

Any opinions on the "Archos 5 Internet Tablet with 500 GB Hard Drive", the reviews are not too favourable, however 500GB of storage is attractive.

It's ashame that the Nexus 7 has no SD card slot...

And the Cowon X7 also receives terrible reviews, although 120GB of storage.

The Samsung Galaxy Players are decent and relatively inexpensive. They run 2.3.

They are interesting however I was hoping for more capacity (like 64GB minimum).

Currently the Samsung Galaxy Player 5.0 has 8GB Internal and 32GB external via a SDCard, and also an old version of Android.

I've just bought a Galaxy S 4.2 WIFI for £80 on Amazon UK and very happy.

1. What version of Android is it running. I presume that you mean a 4.2 inch display with Android 2.3 which is very old.
2. Can you please post the link to it.
3. The capacity is very low... although a great concept, it does'nt hold enough albums for me...

Gingerbread is ok, it is optimized for these older models and it supports Flash player (you need to manually upgrade it by sideloading).

The capacity is good. It has an internal 8GB card (free space about 6GB) and external SD Card of more 8GB (free space 7GB). You can remove the card and replace it with a bigger one.

It's very good as web browser. I stream live tv all day on it.

The Galaxy Samsung S is effectively a phone without UMTS. What I like about it, is that this one is 4 inches which is about the largest that I want for an MP3 player. The 5 inch version is too big because then it is phone like :-)

How long does the battery last for you. The fact that there is an interchangeable battery is a huge plus so you can pack an extra battery when going away for the weekend.

I have read on Amazon (there is another link to the device on Amazon) that a 64GB Micro SD card is the largest card that you can add to it, can anyone confirm that this works and would a larger capacity card work, I don't know what file-system it's using, can you confirm that it's ex-FAT please ?

So in total 6.53 GB on the internal card plus 64GB would be 70.53GB total storage minus Android Apps. That would make it suit my purposes.

I read that a 16GB SanDisk MicroSD did'nt work, so I am wondering what manufacturer MicroSD card's do work...

Also there is the possibility to root it and put CyanogenMod 10 on it, thus upgrading to Android 4.x Has anyone done that yet. I am wondering what would prevent CM10 from working, or if the device requires any special device drivers.

That would make this much more attractive as an MP3 player and the capacity would be slightly larger than an iPod Touch 64GB 5th Gen and cheaper at less than half the price and more than double the quality with Android, even if it is 2.2/2.3 :-)

Couldn't you just purchase a used phone or buy one at low cost and use it as a mp3 player?

My phone works pretty good as mp3 player with some good headphones. With the right setup, you could use the phone with wifi also to make calls and text without having a plan.

Just a thought!
