What's not to get? Just thought it was cool to see one of Linus first postings about linux. Had always heard about how Linus had started Linux by posting on the Usenet. To be able to see one of the actual posting I thought was cool. But, quess that was just MHO.

I believe he was joking. Saying that an OS like that would never catch on.

Your right though, the first few of Linus' posts are cool, but I don't think that that is the first one. Goto www.li.org/linuxhistory.php and look at their history for a whole list of the posts. There is one where he says he is doing something which is:

Good link. Thanks CragStar. I have always loved history and how things started. It's amazing how something that started out as a hobby turned into such a good operating system. My first experience was with RH 5.x and man it has come along way since then.

Thanks again.

actually i can understand... at that time, he probably felt that it was very minimal... very basic and cannot match up to other projects that were well funded. it was a hobby, a project to him. he never imagined that it would catch on this way.

he must have dumbfounded lotsa business gurus... ho ho!

a sense of sadism made me download the original linux kernel source - linux-0.01 - only about 73kb... but it confounds me that one guy was able to write all that low-level scary gibberish, just to get the ball rolling.
