Linksys router and DNS issues
 

OK I did my searching around but I can't seem to find anyone else with this issue. I'm using a Linksys BEFS41 V3 router and just recently it starting giving me problems. DHCP works fine but I cant see beyond the router. I can't ping anything outside. ping yahoo.com or dig yahoo.com does not work. My resolv.conf is ok. It has the right IP numbers and even router shows the same numbers. Yet I cant get to the internet. I'm here right now by pluging my computer right into the cable modem and this shows that its not my computer nor is it network issues. I've reset the router and that doesn't work either and I did disable my firewall to check that too. Still no go. For some reason the router is not letting me resolve any addresses, thus no internet. Any ideas or has my router just had it and died? I was running Azureus and when I came back is when I noticed the problem. I'm running Slackware current with 2.6.10, with no other problems beside this one today.


Any ideas?

If you connect bypassing router sounds like it's isolated to that then... When you said yo disabled fiewall... did you mean software or through the router? Can you access the web based configuration?

I ment the software firewall on my pc, not that its ever caused any problems like this before. And I only have one router, so I don't know what you mean by bypass. Also yes I can get to the config on the router. Its just that I cant resolve any addresses.

What he means by bypass the router is connect from your DSL/Cable modem directly to your PC and then try to connect. If you get a connection that way then unfortunately it's gonna end up being a bad router.

Yea I already said that... didn't I? haha Yea I was guessing its a router gone bad. So should I get another linksys or a netgear? Money is a bit tight right now and the netgear is looking good.

OK I got it fixed. I had emailed Linksys about it and they told me to do a hard reset. Hold the reset button down for 30secs, while holding it down unplug the power and continue holding for a 30 secs more. Then plug the power back in, still holding the button, and hold for 30 secs. After that I turned my modem and router off, pluged everything the way it used to be, then turned on the modem by itself and waited for it to stop blinking. Then I turned on the router. Now it seems to work great. In fact when I run netstat -r it comes up much quicker, it used to wait a few seconds before showing the router address. haha Hope this helps anyone who might have this problem. Seems like the route just needed to clean out its memory.
