let's stop using the word "googling" if offended by Google's behavior

It's convenient to say "googling" instead of "internet searching" or some other such term, but due to Google's apparent lack of regard for users' privacy rights, I propose we stop honoring Google by using its name to describe internet word searching.

Gripe much?

What makes you say this? newbies has a valid point. Google through its monopolisation of searching has socially engineered the Internet and how people talk about it.

Agree in many ways especially about m$ and don't forget ma¢ but I just discovered: http://lmgtfy.com/?q=Google%27s+taking+over :(

Google: verb:
Definition: use a search engine.

* droning voice

GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND. GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND. GOOGLE IS YOUR FRIEND...

(Seriously, though: yes this is a valid issue. Brands such as google crowding out everything else in the average person's consciousness is what No Logo was about).

It would be interesting to know what changes/improvements microsoft has made to powerset since they bought it in June, 2008, other than changing its name to bing.

Hi,

I am a 'ducker'! Always ducking around for information. :)

Keep my ducks in a row in multiple tabs.

I think the term "search" covers what people usually mean when saying "g00gle".

Thanks for the explanation that Bing is a Microsoft search engine, which the tweet did not make clear. I use https://ixquick.com/ for my searches, but had occasionally used Bing.

I'm afraid no one is going to stop saying googling or google it. These terms are embedded in the minds of mortals everywhere. We hear it at work, home, school, in entertainment and etc...

It could be worse, they could say binging.

It can start with us.

I have alwayus hated using 'google' as a verb, and its a free advertisement for that company, which is why I always use 'internet search engine' or similar.

I've used "googling". Some people used to (still do?) refer to using a vacuum cleaner as "Hoovering", even though they used a different make. Not a subject to get worked up about.
