Learning in the Linux Community
Hello,
I'm conducting academic research about learning in the Linux community. Particularly in regards to legitimate peripheral participation -- how people learn within the Linux community and as they become more adept how they in turn train others. Would it be okay to post a link to the survey here? http://survey.education.txstate.edu/...?I.Project=LPP I've tried contacting a few moderators with no success. If you're a moderator, I would be very grateful for a 'yes' or if 'no' some guidance what might be done. Thank you for your time, D Davis |
Nice survey, will some results be published?

Which mods and how? We're all pretty accessible (unless real life intervenes). Regardless, these surveys pop up from time to time and it's fine to post this.

Texas State University:(
South West Texas State University:) Interesting survey BTW. I would definitely like to see the results of the survey. |
I wrote Jeremy via private message and the web admin address listed to contact for advertising via email.
Thanks for the replies. I had thought people passing from LUG to other LUGs would get a few respondents. I've contacted different places and need more. If you could spread the word along in your LUGs/lists/forums that would be great. It will (hopefully) be published in an academic educational technology journal. However, I can see that some place might want to post. The research consists of survey and interviews. The results (with write up) will be ready by February at the latest. I'll certainly post a link to the results here. Thank you. |
Ah, Jeremy has numerous plates in the air! This means that there can sometimes be a delay if offline stuff intrudes. For the future, feel free to contact one of the mods of the particular forum you wish to post in - if we think it needs bringing to Jeremy's attention we can do so and let you know what's going on.
Anyway, back on topic - I have responded to your survey. |

I would also question whether the wording isn't quite biased towards linux? :) Maybe this doesn't matter, as there are always plenty of options to choose from. |
There nothing to stop person from taking survey many times.

It could have been set up with a list of invited participants; however, that would have necessitated having a large list of invites ready. We could have solicited people to respond, send us their email address (assuming they only sent us one using one identity) and then set up the invites. |
Please feel free to pass on the survey link. There have been almost 300 respondents; however, the data is much more meaningful if a survey has 1000 (a thousand) or more respondents.
Thank you for your time. |
Just a note - try and avoid US specific terminology like "K-12", Free Software has users all over the world.
|
I realized about K12 a bit too late. My apologies.
