Laptop making high pitched noise while charging
Help... I have a little trouble with my acer aspire 5520.
When you plug the charger in, but not in the laptop, it makes a very dim high pitched noise. If you plug it in the laptop too, it stops but the high pitched sound now comes from the laptop, even if it's turned off. Otherwise, the charger led is on, and the battery is charging, but the noise can't be right. At first I thought it was the charger, and I bought a new one... Same thing. So it's not it. Note: I've lost the warranty, I have to manually replace whatever's wrong... Any ideas or suggestions what it might be? :) |
Capacitors or maybe bad power in that wall jack? Did you try a different plug?
|
Thanks for the quick reply :)
Yes, I tried about 3 different plugs, same thing... I also have an update: When the battery is fully charged, it stops making the noise. Really strange... |
Very strange - but if it stops when the battery is charged, then has to be capacitors. Those sometimes 'whine' as they power up. I wouldn't worry too much, but if you want to ask an electrician about it don't think it'd hurt.

Thanks. :)
Well then, unless an electrician comes along and tells me it's gonna blow up, then I guess I'll leave it as it is, seems to be working ok when it's fully charged :) |
Most laptops make that sound, a lot of them don't do it when they are new, but it shows up later. If it is charging normally and not getting abnormally hot, just ignore it.
