Just thought I'd share this with you all...

For my ecommerce class this semester I decided to do a site on Linux merchandise. Here is the link...

http://cit-projects.marshall.edu/perkins15/

I'm not too shabby with the PHP/MySQL but still, some things on the site aren't fully completed or need to be redone a little...it's pretty functional for what it is though. Check it out if you want. And remember, IT'S NOT REAL!

Okay, I've designed sites and I'll point out my own opinions on your design... no pun intended, but if you decide to actually create sites for a living, advice and people criticising your work is always a good thing, even if its telling you your site sucks. Trust me, I've had plenty tell me something looks awful or out of place, other opinions always makes you look at it in other ways..

1. Drop the side scroller on the right side for the login links, etc.
2. Create a custom logo with maybe tux included perhaps.. the 3 little pengions above each of the 3 columns looks.. well, ghettoish and what you'd see in the worst site designs that are hosted on geocities or something like that.
3. Level off each of the columns to be even.. not with the side columns even with the middle logo/name.. etc.
4. It might be for a class but work on your opening page welcome.. its very unprofessional. Starting with a "hey and welcome to.. ". I certainly wouldn't introduce my actual business site with a hey..
5. Your style on the left column doesn't render properly in firefox. The FAQ link is cut off by the specials directly underneath it which leads to the next thing I'll point out in 6.
6. Always test and code your pages to properly render in all browsers. Yes, that means download and view them in as many browsers as possible, well at least in a Mozilla variant and IE, which are the most highly used browsers. And its always good to run your code against CSS, XHTML, HTML, etc... type checkers at www.w3c.org

And now as a Moderator of this site, let me express this once again. DON'T SIGN UP FOR THIS SITE AND GIVE OUT YOUR CREDIT INFO, THEY CLAIM THE SITE IS FAKE AND FOR CLASS SO TREAT IT THAT WAY!
Sorry, has to be said since we don't know you personally and you never know, you could be a phisher for some peeps identities.

Cheers.

No offense, but frankly I'm offended. Don't know me and that I could be a phisher. It's a site for class...not even secure and I clearly stated it wasn't real.

And again, my intentions were for just a "hey check out my fake site that sells tux merchandise"...I wasn't really expecting a full blown web design critique. Yes I will consider your views in regards to the site for future use and appreciate any insight you have given...but as I said, I wasn't really expecting a critique. I was more interested in what people thought of the idea of a site that sells tux merchandise.

I still don't know what you are saying in regards to Firefox and the left column design....looks fine to me and I am running Firefox. Maybe a screenshot would help.

I think a disclaimer on the site itself that says it's fake might be a good idea. Looks way too much like a phishing site otherwise...

The concept of linux stuff is done by others...
