Just complain Tux iss 4 hardware

So our hardware products aren't supported in our OS multi functions like my Canon MPC190 aren't supported. So is this a straightlinux issue should we just complain as in the issue of TUX mentioned Above .... it is the current edition at time of writing.

It seems to me a two sided issue, with my hardware there is a printer driver available at Turboprint but due to failures in the the UDEV/FID files this cannot be applied. The Printer/Scanner function interferes with a straight printer driver function. So ...What to do well


Firstly, Complain , pester the companies Canon, Brother, Epson and Lexmark etc... to produce drivers for there equip as standard.

Secondly Have a standard driver format for all linux drivers, as compared to linux package systems .deb .tgz and rpm etc.

Thirdly drivers are available in some cases so linux needs a fully functional udev sys for usb multifunction devices and all affected devices, otherwise why would companies go to any effort.


My Canon Doesn't work in Windows without a driver disk, Windows cannot run it so Lets make canon release drivers!!!!!!!!!!!!! Let Linux REIGN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Brother provides Linux drivers for all their printers and printer/scanner combinations. We must have some points there.

You know, there are other threads that are live and just like this one. Why not just post to them rather than start a new identical thread?

Sure you can and should complain to them. But you bought the hardware so they already have your money anyway. The real way to complain to those who don't support Linux is to not buy their hardware in the first place. Buy only from companies whos hardware is supported by Linux, that is a much more meaningful protest as it hits them squarely in the wallet.

I agree if brother does support Linux then we should give them recognition for doing that?

Is the model you are using Michael friendly on your wallet when you need to get ink refills?

I had bought my canon device some time ago before I really fully got into linux (bit over a year ago), the main reason being that print quality was good and cartridge refills cheap black $5 (knock off brands but still work well) and $12 official brand.

The brother uses 4 separate colour cartridges. So you oly buy the colour you need when you need it. I don't the cost of the cartridges. The scanner/printer was on special and I got it for a good price.

I did receive a response from canon, and as you may have guessed, the general result was "We are looking into it, unsure whether backdated drivers will be released."

I am not holding my breath.:(
