Just built new PC, Screetching Loud Noise coming from Heatsink

I just put together a AMD X2 4400+ System. I got a Gigabyte GA-K8NSC-939 Board nforce3 chipset, I put everything together and when i turn it on, there is a ridiculously loud sound coming from (what it seems to be is the heatsink) What the hell could be going on, plus i cant get the heatsink off cause of the thermal paste or whatever :|

Sedentary electronic components don't make noises. Check your fans. All of them.

Check your fans and maybe the little case speaker that comes with a lot of cases.

Sweet system though. Hope you get the problem fixed.

Dollars to Donuts it's the sleeve bearing in the heatsink fan... I would recommend replacing it. If you can't, you can sometimes crack open the top of the fan (there is often a plastic lid that can be pried off) and use some linseed oil to lubricate the fan (just a drop). Not a procedure for the faint at heart though...

It sounds like you have a noise coming from your fan or computer or somwhere inside your computers case.

You've put the CPU heatsink fan on upside down.

DOH!

The centre 'hub' of the fan will be rubbing on the fins of the heatsink.

The little heat-gnomes that carry the high temperatures to the fan so the fan can kick them out are on strike for better working conditions.
