Is this true???

http://www.fmtech.co.za/?p=10861

I dont know whether the above statement are a true reflection of Linux's eternal damnation with the entry of Windows 7. Has any of you looked at it and seen if it does indeed spell doom for Linux?

Kindly your feedback will be appreciated.

We'll see how many switch from Win7 or dual boot once it's out for awhile...that is what alot of these so-called experts don't realize.

Complete nonsense. In any case, Windows 7 is still in Beta. Plenty of time for MS to add more bloat and expensive extras before its shipped.

There are lots of interesting development going on in Linux, its not standing still. It is also very difficult to beat free

I think I know what it is. I think Gates and Ballmer believe in magic. If they say something enough times, if they wish it hard enough, if they put all their willpower into saying the words, "Window$ 7 will destroy Linux !" then it will come true.

But, I can tell you that what will come true is that Window$ 7 will be a greater failure even than Vi$ta, and perhaps it will be great enough to finally bring down the undead demon that is M$. It will fall under its own weight, no matter how much FUD or propaganda they spread, no matter how hard they wish, they will fall under their own weight.

Oh, and the article is 100 % BS, or just a sarcastic joke.

Wasn't Vista also touted as the Linux killer? Linux is constantly evolving, Windows is stuck at each release cycle for at least 5 years. By the time they've caught up with Linux now, we're far ahead. It's not an innovation thing, necessarily, on either side - it's the Windows inertia that keeps it popular.

Of course it was. Next version of windows (if it will happen) probably will be named in the same way - something like: "revolutionary operating system! uber-revolutionary linux destroyer that will wipe out all opensource communities, vaporize apple, and start a new era in the history of humanity and entire universe!!!". This is because product is commercial and they are trying to bring as much attention as they can to their product, using all available means - including lying about functionality, hiding less-pleasant aspects of product, and dazzling potential customers with catchy words. It quite often works this way with any commercial products - product creator launches huge advertisement campaign, gathers a lot of interested people even before product is even finished, and once product finally arrives, it turns out that this thing is either not so great as expected/described in advertisements (examples: Fallout 3, Spore), or it is complete miserable failure (examples: Google Lively, Microsoft Photosynth, Cuil search engine). The problem with too much advertisements/hype is that if product doesn't meet expectations, all that large crowd of people that was attracted to the product, will dislike the product, creator, and tell their friends about it.

Yeah, thats called "Advertising", something MS spends vast amounts of money on, I wouldn't worry about it.

Wow. Reads just like a Microsoft press release. Only with more mud-slinging.

Nope, no bias there. Just one howler after another. For example:

Quote:
Ubuntu has not had a significant refresh of its graphical user interface since it was launched more than four years ago.
Ooooh, a whole 4 years. And before Vista came out how long had it been since the last "significant refresh" of the Windows gui? Not to mention that *buntu actually offers 3 different gui interfaces, with the option of installing even more.

Frankly I think W7 is going to be a complete dud. Possibly even worse than Vista. I saw recently where they announced their new "version" and pricing structure. It will supposedly cost $320 for the full, unlocked "ultimate" version. Who wants to pay 40-50% over the hardware cost of their system just for the OS, especially in hard economic times like this?

Linux is looking like a better and better option all the time. With adverti...er...articles like this coming out you can almost smell the fear emanating from Redmond.

I'd expect complete failure instead, at least in this case you won't have too much of disappointment if they don't meet your expectations and release something of tolerable quality.

Who wants to pay when it can be pirated?
Seriously, I don't know about who will buy it, but it will be certainly pirated in large quantities (again, as win95, win98, win2000, winxp) and used by people who will have no intention in paying for it. As usual.

There is only one way to compete with Free and Microsoft certainly wont choose that option.

I suspect they will probably try and patent things down though.
