Is Super Mario Bros (released in 1985) free ?
Hi,
1985, Super Mario Bros is released. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_Bros. Do you believe that 32 years make it available to informatic's community? Patents are usually for 20 years, so, what about 32 years? Code:
echo $(( 2017 -1985)) |
Super Mario Bros., the successor to the 1983 arcade title Mario Bros.,
so when was Mario Bros., created? or is that a mis read? successor to 1983 would be after 1983? does not make it free per se' just able to use its likeness an or how it works as you own under a different name - like the many tetras games and alike out there like yachty and such all have variants of the same game under a different name. |
Might "Mickey Mouse Law" apply here? in other words, might the "intellectual property" last until the last person who ever saw it dies?

To me, 32 years is quite a long period. Who knows how much Nintendo in 2017 can get $$ with a 1985 old game? Look HL, got their game on Archives.org, which is likely also a bit hit for gaming industry: https://archive.org/details/Half-Lif...and_Valve_1998 |
I meant this.

The copyrights will still be in effect.
Brands can have very long lasting value. Consider, for instance, the license fees that Google is paying for PokemonŽ characters in association with its online game ... |

Mind you, there is some consolation in that one can now sing "Happy Birthday To You" and not be charged with copyright infringement! Yay, erm.... |
At one time there was a small limit on the time you could protect works. Then after that time the works were supposed to enrich the public by becoming public domain. That is the public owns it. After some mean folks got there hands on the laws there became longer and longer times before the public could own it. After all the public protected the original owners. They ought to get something back shouldn't they?
I doubt anything has turned into public domain in the last 20 years. Owners can go back and reclaim the rights even. |
