Is Retrogaming still today possible?

Hello,

Is Retrogaming still today possible?

There aren't today free, legal, gameboy games, nor even old games, since they are known to be illegal, more than ever.

Does it make sense to think about retrogaming?

Gameboy games?

All of the Gameboy games have been rereleased for the 3DS. You can buy them on the 3DS eshop for a few bucks each.

Dude there's a Home-style retro games store near my home area down the street, plus Gamestop, (for the very least they can be useful in), does that whole sale of "retro-games" on their shelves. Expensive as shit to get either way you slice it, but it's nostalgia, people will bank on anything that people still love because it reminds them of their childhood. It's still possible legally and "illegally," It's just simply like comic-con these days; Exclusive and expensive, but hey, it's all a bunch of nerds like myself right? In the end it's all about the of person you are yourself; Shit hasn't changed, you just simply now noticed the more off-putting details that you as a kid didn't.

"Expensive as shit to get either way"

Anything that can do money will be taken by business !!

You won't find rom any longer, since corporations discovered it and want to make money.

Sometimes retro games are better than the most modern stuff. Retro games are much better the new ones.

That's not true. NTSC TVs and VGA monitors did a lot to hide the pixellation and dithering that are so obvious on the huge LCD monitors we use today.

Here's an example of trying to recreate that via postprocessing:

It depends upon your definition of "retrogaming"! I play a half dozen DOS games (in Dosbox or using FreeDos), and a few more that were primitive console or DOS games that have been cloned for Linux. I have friends that play several old console games on homemade emulation machines (getting the right controller is key). We still have a Sega Saturn at my house and BUG2 and Mr Bones still rock!

I think that you may be assuming some things are illegal that (as long as you have a paid version of the game) are not illegal, just uncommon.

What kind of retro games would you want to play?

Really does depend on how retro you wanna go.

There are many fanmade ports to Linux like Morrowind (MWopen) and Descent that modernise them. Some would be too fast otherwise. Whole dos game packs are available. GOG is a good way if you're in Amerika's credit-world. Good OLD games.

Its perfectly legal to just torrent up all kinds of games in most countries in the world. Playstations all have packs being shared. PSP, X-box, Nintendo. Anything you can burn a DVD for. GOG and Steam are there too for those of us not a part of the credit culture.

I still pull the Descent series out sometimes. So fast and smooth with all settings on high and modded with the open project, this was how it was supposed to be. Still a great game. You can see alot of other games ideas came from there. Multiple cameras, a "companion" drone, and even listening to the magical flares being thrown by Skyrim's heroes as they fly and hit their targets. Like they copied and pasted. They really outdid themselves.

Comes with an interesting backstory about the death of a company by closed-source. Unlike the incredibly popular Doom, it couldn't be modded and people were ticked. Its blamed for the death of the mother company. When I play Fallout *, I see the lessons of Descent all over it. Bethesda won't be making the same mistake.

Gamin's good. Good luck.
