And you think windows is more reliable than Linux? And can you say why and which domains?

rich_c 04-23-2009 03:59 AM

Maybe you should try OpenSolaris then. We have a SUN box (workstation) at work that's been up for a few years now. I can't remember exactly what the uptime was but it was in the region of the 700ish days mentioned earlier. If you found that to be unreliable then I think we could safely conclude that the problem's either hardware or chair/keyboard interface.

Boo hoo hoo... :cry:

There's no whining in linux...

Nice paraphrase for start of Baseball season. When I read it, it was Tom Hank's voice in my head.

I really don't think you'll find anything that's 100% reliable on this planet. Try somewhere else.

Even if you can get past the video, wifi and/or ethernet driver problems, programs stop working, internet connections fail and so on. I guess there's a reason they're all these different distros out there, yet Linux on the desktop is less the %1 globally. I just hope I can continue using WinXP Pro until they pry it from my cold, dead fingers. The prospect of having to rely on Linux just depresses me.

Precisely the reason why I went back to the Windows!
:)

Linux

Where??

If I don't know where to look, I rarely see Linux promoted. And I have never seen a claim that it is "drop-dead reliable".

Friends;
I think we're being trolled.........

yep, inherently unreliable.

cheers,

Yikes! Don't you ever patch your kernel to fix vulnerabilities?

Yes. Using Slackware solved all my problems:
* Women never gave me a second glance, now I have to fight them off.
* I had to wear glasses, now I've got 20/20 vision.
* I was bald, now I've got waist length curly hair.
* I was bankrupt, now I'm a multi-billionaire.
* I couldn't swim, now I can walk on water.
* I was weak, now I can benchpress a double-decker 'bus.
* People thought I was crazy, now they're sure I am.

Well, I've experienced some of the things the OP says such as 'it always seems to fail on it's own without changing a thing on the system' 'programs stop working, internet connections fail' with many other distros, except Slackware ... so I recommend it. Can it do wonders ? ... well maybe :)

SlowCoder 04-23-2009 08:42 AM

I like the way this thread is going. The OP attacks Linux as some unusable piece of junk. You guys respond back, very knowledgably, that no OS is perfect, and at the same time not touting Linux as end-all-be all. He responds back with "see, I told you linux is junk". Definitely a troll.

To the OP: Get on with your life. Don't use Linux if it doesn't work for you.
To the rest of you: Good job not turning this thread into an elitist attack. :)

H_TeXMeX_H 04-23-2009 09:19 AM

He might be a troll, but his other posts seem legit and it looks like he actually tried for find solutions to his problems.

Well, you moderators have bashed me across the forehead often enough about my angry retorts to this kind of post that it's starting to sink in. Well, maybe only a little. :)

See, it didn't straighten and whiten your teeth, clearly the OS is no good!

Oh yes it did! I forgot to mention that. It made me an even better liar than I was before too.
