Is linux *blank* up my windows space?

Get this,

a 20 fully healthy space on a nice laptop hard drive.
5 mg for hibernation part 0
7.5 for windoz xp part 1
5 for linux root part 5
456 mg for swap
3.9 for the user partition part 7
700 mb for the /saftypart part 8

Now, for the few times i go on linux for the Flight Simulator and Quincy C++ tutorial, I get a problem

I open F-SIM and tells me that I have 400kb keft on the hard drive (but I have really 5.1 gb left)
I install quincy and tells me that I have 140 kb left on the hard drive (but I have really 4.9)

What the h@@@ is going on!!!
The only partition having POSSIBLY that many space left is the /saftypart, and it's a EXT3, not readble for windows yet...

Comme on, gimme a break, It's a fully capable 4.9 gb I can NOT USE!!?

I hope SOMEBODY gives me a good explanation.

I defragmenting and hope that the big cluster of file at the end of the drive was the problem.

What a pain in the neck!

(not linux, XP!)
