Could've sworn this was called a hostmask, technically any irc server can provide it.

Seems I did call something irrelevant again but have not explained why, that was kinda rude I guess.
A hostmask isn't there to hide your host from users' icmp or whois (which may or may not be provided by the server)
It's there to prevent idle bots that LOG everything in the channel from logging your host and listing it on their spam lists.
