iphones for europe: prices & advices

the apple iphone is really great machine, like the mac os x operating system.
Is there any fans of iphone ? www.apple.com/iphone/

I'm not a fan of over priced, over hyped hardware.

Their hardware is still crap. I worked for a reseller who sold to government and education customers and they would buy apple trash and then want us to fix it when it broke all the time. We could sell business machines like HP vecrta and compaq deskpros by the hundreds and get one or two failures compared to selling apple machines in qualtities less than 10 and getting several failures in the first few months. One apply fan at a state agency was always telling me I needed a mac. So sometimes I would ask to see his and it would be in the shop. He must have sent that thing back to apple 6 times in two years.
I bought my MIL an ipod because she does fall for fads, it died after 9 months and I found out you have to pay #30 for warranty service or spend all day at the apple store. Crap support for a crap product. I let me son play with one of the computers at the apple store, he's 18 months old, crashed one machine and locked up another. I played with the overhyped iphone, the UI is terrible, try finding a contact in the middle of 100, you'll spend all day scrolling.

same here, I also agree with enine...I never understood why so many people think Apple is great.

There are supposedly some great Linux iPhone alternatives comming out, I'd recommend doing some research on those and grabbing one when they come out instead of an iPhone.

I can't say anything from actual usage-experience, but looking at the specs, the iPhone is a piece of pretty mediocre hardware with an apple logo and some snazzy eye-candy in the interface. Some of the advertisements I've seen hilight features like a calendar and a web-browser, neither of which is anything special on modern smartphones. If I've understood correctly, íPhone also uses EDGE for high-speed connectivity instead of some of the faster alternatives. Touch screens on mobile phones isn't anything new either, both Nokia and Ericsson have published models with touch-screens in the past, and I'm sure other manufacturers have, as well.

Ofcourse, for someone not so "techy", or an Apple-fan, the iPhone is a must-buy, but I myself will rather spend the extra bucks on some actual features, like GPS-navigation for instance - or just buy a cheaper phone alltogether...

Oh, and what enine said about the supposedly overly-intuitive UI is absolutely correct, as far as video reviews can be trusted. It looks to be nothing like the touch-wheel on the iPods, but rather a cheap gimmick, that - in the long run - will just have you fustrated when it maldunctions or misbehaves.

The touch wheel on the ipods sucks big time too. It sucked in the 80's when colecovision used it before apple innovated it.

I recommend the blackberry pearl instead of the iphone.

It's cheaper and it does more of what it is designed for...communication.

the iphone is just an ipod with a phone built in.

What is it that makes the iphone great?

I guess the million dollar question is, of all the 'features' included in the iphone, does the main purpose of iphone even work at all!? LOL And the fact that Apple chose AT&T, seems to suggest, not very well perhaps. Nor can I understand how the other features such as watching youtube videos and downloading other content is going to work, on such a slow network. Yea, real smooth move there Steve.

In the end, all I want is a phone, nothing more, and if making a phone call is more troublesome than its worth, then the iphone itself isn't worth the circuit board it was created on.

I keep wondering what is so attractive about watching video on a phone??? Since I got used to a 19 inch screen, I find even 17 inch screens make me extremely discomfortable. So now we're going to spend 350 euros to peer at a 2 inch screen??? Marketing will really sell anything apparently.
