invisible mode? why use that?

I just saw that I have the option of using invisible mode, whereby I would not be publicly noticed browsing a sub-forum. I'm known to be paranoid, but I'm not sure why I should care who can see me on LQ.

I'm not sure whether I should have posted this in non-NIX general or in, perhaps, LQ suggestions and feedback. Moderators are invited to move it if they wish.

Doesn't that just stop your user name from showing when you're on the forum.

That's what I said, yes. I don't know why I would want to browse invisibly.

Reminds me of the scene in the movie Little Big Man where his grandfather said, "I've never been invisible before!", and then walks without fear through a battle zone.

Yes I guess S&F would have been better. Didn't know about the option. Wouldn't bother with it anyways. But enjoy if you like using it!

I've never used it, but my best guess is this: One of the icons in the left sidebar of a user's post will display whether or not the user is online. Perhaps it mutes that icon.
