I've been using android phones for some time now, because I'm frankly surprised that dumb phones are still permitted.

Android phones are untrustworthy computing devices - you can't be sure that you really ever get root. I treat mine the way I treat skype (which I need to keep video contact with determined windows and mac using family members), ie it's just a communication device which is always open to anybody who wants to listen and is always broadcasting its position. And I don't "app" (apart from a calculator and book reader), and certainly don't trust it with private information..
