If you own a PS3, how do you backup the HDD info ?

Just want to know how you backup the data on your PS3's HDD, because I need a good strategy.

Are you talking about backing up so you can repartition and install Linux, or just in general?

I don't keep any backups of the drive under normal circumstances, anything I bought is tied to my PSN account, and with as few games that are worth devoting any serious time into on the system, losing my saves would only mildy aggrivate me.

Of course, even if I did want to make backups, most of those options won't apply to me, or the majority of PS3 owners for that matter; as only the first run consoles had the media slots.

Yeah, you're right, I have one of the first ones (it also has hardware emulation). So then I guess this poll is useless ?

I mean just backing up in general not necessarily Linux, I mean backing up saves and games and stuff. I wonder can you backup games that are only on the HDD ? I haven't tried.

I have actually never backed mine up. I installed YellowDogLinux on it as soon as I got it home.

Most save files allow you to back up to USB devices. However, you can't back up some games saves like Need For Speed Carbon. The downloadable games you buy from PSN can always be re-downloaded when you log into your PSN account. And any pictures, music, movies should already be backed up elsewhere... that's why they include the UPnP Client feature.

I guess the real question is... how often do you go through all your games that you would be inconvenienced by having to unlock everything again and or reinstall your games?

I suppose you could always pull the hard drive out and hook it into a regular computer.

I see, well then maybe I shouldn't bother backing anything up anyway. Well thanks to all that responded, I guess this poll is useless then.
