IBM to build Linux supercomputer

" NEW YORK (Reuters) - International Business Machines says it has been selected to build a supercomputer for the U.S. Department of Defence that help develop advanced weapons for the army.

The computer, code named "Stryker", will be deployed at the Army Research Laboratory Major Shared Resource Centre in Aberdeen, Maryland, IBM said on Tuesday.

IBM did not disclose the financial terms of the deal.

The supercomputer consists of 1,186 powerful IBM computers connected together with a total of about 2,300 64-bit microprocessors made by AMD. The supercomputer would run on the Linux operating system."

I know most of these stories your posting are cool and all but do you really need to link and create so many threads of so many? Most read their news on the dozens upon dozens these are already on?

Just a thought really.. not intended to pun you at all.

Regards.

P.S. i will do it on one thread then, ok?

Well, I'll ask you nicely then. Please don't post links to news stories everyday. LQ.org is not intended to be yet another Slashdot or news site. Every so often is cool on a story you want to share your input on.. in which you really haven't. So if you do link to these stories every single day, why not share your own input about them and ask others opinions.. that's how its suppose to work, instead of being a news site.

Regards.

PS. Just posting snippets of news articles and then linking to them without prompting any discussion, sharing your own views about it is just spamming our site to me.. Think about it again. You've posted 6 already in the past 2 days without sharing one ounce of your own opinion on any of them. If this continues, I will put a stop to it.

PSS. Free world eh? Last I checked this site is privately owned and has its own rules setup by the admin and owner. So yeah, world might be free world but not everywhere. If it was a free world, I could spray paint my name on your home without getting in any kind of trouble or being sued, etc. ;)

But i too think it is most pertinent to share with LQ community "what's going on" instead of (no offense) posting threads like "whats the color of your eyes " either. My goal is to stir things up (sorry if i sound arrogant, i don't mean to) and of course to know what people think, people should speak up regardeless if i talk or not, the news can be much more interesting alone, than trailling some volatile non thoughtfull thinking.
Linux is increasingly becomming more and more important (of course you all know that) but, others don't and please don't try to minimize my effort, by saying "cool stuff" cause if you don't see it as a good thing that's your business, really.

I understand you want to share all this news your finding on sites probably in which more than 50% of us already browse or have seen but even Jeremy in the past specifically stated he doesn't want LQ to be another news site. What your doing is pretty much exactly that, especially when you even stated your going to post several or more a day now which I still fail to see why. I see it as spam, I'm sorry, it is to me and its something I don't want to browse thru, check links and so on every day as a moderator here.

I'm not trying to be arrogant but you should respect the wishes of those who run this fabulous site as well. I say if your going to post a thread that links to an article on another site, express why you posted it, how it affects you and ask others inputs. That's all I'm asking, posting articles are fine, its just if you plan on the 2 or more a day thing, its going to get old, very fast type of old.

I also feel if you don't invoke some kind of discussion, your not going to spark any discussion. Most will just see you posting links to news they've already seen or discussed elsewhere.

So again, as a moderator of this forum, try to live up to my wishes and or expectations, that's all I'm asking, its not hard and I don't think I'm asking of too much really. Is it so hard for you to post a link to a news article and give your insight? I think not.

Regards.

PS. Also to mention, at least your not giving crap titles like your first two with only a link of "go here".. as those are blind links that is.. you followed my advice afterwards and I thank you for that. Cause if you kept that up, then we would have had some problems as that crap just pisses me off. Crap titles and only a link, makes me want to rip the persons head off. ;)

PSS. "This forum is for non-technical general discussion which can include both Linux and non-Linux topics. Have fun! " And your exactly right in quoting the description of this forum, note the keyword "discussion" and not "post links to other sites articles" in here.. ;)

I would be surprised if it made the top 10...

Still it should be a pretty cool cluster.
I've seen Number 11.
