IBM Contributes 500,000 Lines Of Code To Apache

yeah, i wonder if this comes because of the patent laws that came out a while ago, not that i am a ibm fan but what what counts is that they appear to be helping linuxers(of course they will be gainning something, improvement maybe?), BTW, what actually are they for, anyways?
