IBM Aptiva

Can some one help me? I am trying to get info on an IBM Aptiva 2159-S64 computer a friend just gave me. All I know is that it's old and probably was new around the windows 95 era. But beyond that I cannot find any specs with a google search or at the IBM website.

Wow, I did a google search and found 234 hits.. one page led to this page where it has some info: http://www.samintl.com/mem/n4079.htm

Your probably not going to find a lot of detailed specs on a machine this old but well, you can probably learn more about it if you turn it on.. or at least attempt to..

Thanks. I found a lot of links but I couldn't find any usefull info. I am in the process of taking it apart now. Who ever owned this before appears to have had it maxed with hardware upgrades, even an old Rage II+DVD 3d card(2MB.) Before I plug it in I need to clean up all the dust and cob-webs inside. I hope I can get this to boot.

Also it is a 1995 Computer that had some major upgrades in 1996. How major? Not sure yet.

EDIT: Correction, it is a 4MB Rage II+DVD card.

All I am going to say is I really hope the RAM is good in that rig. Looking at the price on SIMMs about made me cry. Good luck.

The RAM seems ok at boot(32MB). Now I just can't get the mouse or keyboard working. But the good news is that nothing blew up, so far, LOL.

I think I will take a break. I got the keyboard to work and apparently the mouse. The errors I am getting now is 5806 Diskette Drive Error and 5862 Configuration Change has occured. It gives me options but the keyboard stops working at that point. When the system boots it gives me the option to bypass memory test. I hit the escape key and that works fine and the keyboard and pointing errors are gone. But I still can't use the keyboard to continue with the setup utility. I also tried to boot with a livecd but it is not set up for that.

It sounds like the CMOS battery might be dead. With the machine being that old I would actually bet that it is. I would find a replacement and see if that fixes your errors.

It could be. I will give that a try. I have another computer that has the same kind of battery, about the same age to, but that battery is dead also.

Almost all motherboards take the same type of cmos battery.. you can probably even get them at the gas station around the corner.. for a few bucks..
