i moved my /etc to an other folder (/home)
Hi all
i moved my /etc folder to the /home folder.... when i restart the server i can log in with the S for single-user mode.... the problem is i cant move back my folder to the original place. i try to do mount -uw / mount -o remount,rw / i try to boot from the rescue mode from install cd but i cant do chroot /mnt/sysimage my system is in read-only mode.... how can i move my /etc back is original place.... THX |
live cd?
Have you tried using a live CD and just copying/moving the files back by hand?

i try to boot with knoppix 4.0 i cant acces to drive....
i try with simply mepis same there.... |

I'd like to try and help but your posts are really thin on details about the actions that you have taken e.g. how did you try to access the drive, what errors you got when the process failed etc. By the way why would you want to move /etc to /home particularly on an important server? Your system won't work properly if important files in /etc are not found.

If you can log in - even only in single user mode - you can copy/move it back.
Error messages when and what you try could help. |

hi all
moderator have close my other thread sorry again. it was my first time i post in a forum.... the only distribution finally able to see my drive was the ubuntu live cd 5.10 i make a directory in the with command makedir /mnt/driveplz i go in terminal i rewrite the /etc/fstab in the ubuntu (sudo gedit /etc/fstab) add this /dev/VolGroup00/LogVol00 /mnt/driveplz ext3 defaults 1 1 save file sudo mount -a ( in terminal) my drive mount in the /mnt/driveplz after i open i open two nautilus with sudo nautilus and finally drag my /mnt/driveplz/home/etc folder to the /mnt/driveplz/etc reboot and was able to log in Now my ldap server is ok my samba server is ok but my nfs server is down.... i will try to found a solution maybe with the transfert of /etc some file was lost.... Thx to all in both thread |
