I have decided to pay SCO

"I have decided to pay SCO's licence fee for my systems. That means I am up for $US699 for my main machine and $US32 for an embedded license for my Sharp Zaurus PDA.

There will only be one small catch. I will store the money in my wallet. I am, of course, willing to allow any interested analysts to review my wallet, where I will explain which $US731 belongs to SCO. They will just have to sign an NDA, promising not to tell others which banknotes are mine and which belong to SCO."

Luke Welling, Melbourne Australia, a letter printed in The Australian newspaper.

That gives me another idea. If someone put the $699 in trust, payable in full to SCO on successful litigation proving that Linux does violate SCO's IP rights and that SCO has the right to charge a license to the end user, what could SCO do? You would be fully indemnified, and get your money back. Would probably be a great lead for any company that is actually worried about this without having to actually pay SCO.

I have also thought of sending a check for $1, with a statement 'Acceptance of this check aknowledges the total worth of SCO IP (regardless of how it got into Linux, if it exists) to a home user'.

I think that maybe that's a little overpriced, perhaps 1c would be more like it...
