I can't sign into an older Google/Youtube account

I have an older Google/Youtube account that I'm trying to sign into. I may decide to delete some videos (youtube) that I'm moving over to my most used Google account.

However, here's the problem. When I try to log into the older google/youtube account, it accepts my login email (which is still valid), and it accepts my password. However, it always brings me to a screen that says it doesn't recognize the device I'm logging in with and wants to send me a code to the phone number on file. Problem is, I don't have that cell phone number any more.

I can't figure out any way to simply have google send a verification code to the email. It always wants to send a code to my mobile phone (again, the ph# is no longer in use).

Any ideas to help me? I've spent about an hour trying to accomplish this, and have to give up for the moment and rest my mind.

Regards,

Michael

I gave-up on my old gmail because of this!

Other accounts like Origin or Steam and all others I was able to recover, having them change my mail over to Proton. Was able to answer security questions and verify other personal data... long story short backups extend to recoverability, think ahead!

Sorry.

Well, it's not even a case of backing up that leads to recovery - I have the login (email) and password for this older Google/youtube account. It's just the cell phone number for it is no longer valid.

My current Google (youtube) account has my current mobile phone number, a valid email address, and I know it's password.

But this older Google (youtube) account will only attempt to "verify" me by sending a code (or phone call) to that old cell phone number that I no longer have. It won't even allow me to have the "verification code" sent to the valid email associated with this older Google account. Very frustrating!

It was frustrating for me too, that's why I gave up.

Again sorry.

I actually only wanted to recover that old gmail because I needed to verify my other accounts using it... and I may have worded it wrong but I'd consider backing up and recovering the same thing?

Google in no way shape or form offered me any help so I've added more recovery options to backup my Proton account.

The problem is, I created the account using Youtube - before Google took it over. There is no gmail email account associated with the account. There is my old email (which I still have access to) that is associated with the account.

This is what happens. I log in with my email address (used as the username) and the correct password. Instead of taking me to the account, Google tells me every time they don't recognize the device I'm using and want to send me a code to the obsolete phone number.

If there is anyone that thinks they can help, private message me. I have *NO* problem sharing the login and password to this older account. All I want to do is delete some videos on it.

Yes, I've tried that and everything.

I created the older account when youtube wasn't owned by Google. At that time, I could simply type in my login (which is a valid email I still can access) and type in a password (which I still have).

However, now, since it's owned by Google, I can type in the correct login information (the valid email I still use) and the valid password. At this point, it says I'm using a device that it doesn't recognize and offers to send a code to the cell phone number (that I no longer have, use, or remember). There is absolutely *NO* way to get it to send the code to the email address on file associated with the older account.

I have probably attempted to regain/recover access to this older youtube account for 2 or 3 hours.

Anyone that think they can help, I am more than glad to trust anyone here with my login and password to the older account to attempt to recover access to it - PM me if you want to attempt to solve this enigma (puzzle) !

Regards,

Michael

I have the exact same problem as OP - except that the account is a mail account.

I created it over a decade ago when Google didn't require phone authentication or any such thing. At some point it started nagging me for a phone number and I shut it up by providing a bogus number.
It still gets mail and forwards it to my current default account, but I cannot log in whatever I try - and belive me, I tried. The password is still valid.
Btw, OP, I'm pretty sure there's a link to "try something else" or some such when it gets to asking for the number.

The account is of the firstname.lastname@gmail.com variety, and I feel uncomfortable just leaving it there (although it must be said that Google seems to be doing a good job of protecting it from unauthorised access - including myself). I would love to close it down.
In my case I'm hoping the firstname.lastname thing might help me to convince Google that I am indeed the owner - with a passport copy or something, loathe as I would be to do that - if I can only get hold of a real and knowledgeable person.

I know it's a pain and lengthy to do, but usually you can call to handle it with a person. Yes you get stuck waiting like an hour for someone. Not necessarily these vendors, but I've done this before. Be prepared to wait a long time, explain a lot, spend a lot of time with numerous persons, and then be given a new number to call. Rinse and repeat. Usually I can get t done, but sometimes it takes a few days of trying. I just put it on speaker, mute myself, and go on my own business until someone comes on.

The phone numbers for Google that I have found, when called, expressly tell me that this phone number isn't for google support, and proceeds to give me a Google web page to go to for support.

If anyone knows a Google/youtube phone # for support, please do tell!

I can also *not* find a place to email google support, chat with google support, or a page to type in a message to be sent to google support.

It is a royal pain to get to it, but support.google.com has a page for that.

I spent days trying. Fortunately for me I didn't really need the account so it can rot! The other accounts that I needed that email for a head clear and present support.

Perhaps Google has services where customers pay and then they would need to have support, try calling them that way?

One thing you could try, IF that old number is still unused (meaning if that number has not been assigned to anyone yet), you could try to port that number to voice.google.com? You will need a new Google account for this.

Then you will be able to retrieve any text messages that are sent to that account via Google Voice app.

Not any on their site? That's where I'd look. Not specifically for Google/YouTube, I'd just find a way to speak to "a" person in Google support and ask them where they recommend I try, if'n they actually couldn't help me there and then.

Did the movie The Internship lie to me?

Yep. There's that. All about how much of your time you want to spend chasing something down.

I mean, ... are these videos (1) identifiable to you specifically? And (2) really giving a poor impression? Not asking specifically to know, just those would be the questions I'd be considering as the pursuit got more lengthy.

Thanks for the suggestion; however, I do not know the full phone # I had years ago. When Google signifies, during any attempted verification, they block out many numbers in the phone #: Like they'll say they sent a verification code to *04 **23 9*1*

Google is a major pain in the A$$, because they can't simply send a verification code to the valid email adress. They seem to *HAVE* to do it via a cell phone txt.

I hate Google more and more every day.
