Hi. I've been using Linux for about 7 months now and I feel excited about using my computers every day again.
I'm here to share the reasons why I finally decided to download Linux ISO and replaced OS drive in my computer to give it a go.
Reasons why I think that Windows10 is so annoying, it almost feel like a psychological warfare. I'd like to know who feels the same...

No.1 thing that made my blood boil: Reversed two finger scrolling on touchpad & removed option to go back. WTF. WTFF. Am I not allowed to scroll the way I scrolled for last 15 years? Bad. I am an INFP personality type with deep morals and visions of universal good. This crap felt like Windows10 is taking something very personal away from me for absolutely no good reason. They are not improving ANYTHING but making me frustrated every time I use touchpad on Windows10 computer.
It's like someone breaks into your house at night and swaps hinges on all your doors to the other side. Achieving nothing but making you always grab for door handle that's no longer there. That's a software violence.

No.2 thing that grins my gears: When logging in, your first key hit is not registered as first character of your password and you fail to log in. What? This seriously passed feature reviews as something that should be forced onto everyone? Fkn why? That's absolutely unreasonable to having to press a key to press sequence of keys. Only on Windows10!

No.3 thing that makes my day bad: Of course the updates and the insanely irritating black screen with idiotic text slowly fading in and out. Is there anyone out there who reads this with excitement? I don't think so. I'm not 4 years old, I can handle "please wait".

It all started to feel like Windows10 wants you to stop using most of your brain and submit, while Linux requires the opposite. I'm little embarrassed every time I see someone using Windows10 and I feel like I hate something about it. Windows10 made me hate and I hate that.

I feel your pain. I use Windows 10 every day at work and cuss it constantly. I did build a gaming box at home and installed Windows 10 (first time in over a decade) and for strictly gaming, it's fine. I never use it for anything other than a shell to run Steam and GoG galaxy.

Linux gives you complete control, which is definitely empowering.

I use Windows everyday in the morning with coffee. From then on I switch to Linux. I have no issue with Windows 10. Use case I guess.

It's not so much Windows 10 for me as it is Office, specifically Outlook. Rubbish as far as I am concerned. I work in a networked enterprise environment (all AD) and the network lag causes poor performance as well, furthering my frustration with the Outlook UI. Windows 10 at home boots quickly and works fine since all I do is either click the Steam or GoG Galaxy icons - I never use anything else in the OS.

I haven't used Windows in a number of years, so long that when my wife has trouble with hers there is nothing I can do to help, she is on her own.

However, perhaps I can summarize people's frustration. I assure you this is my opinion and my opinion only. Windows will let you use your computer for anything and in any way Bill Gates wants. Linux will let you use your computer for anything and in any way YOU want. Of course with that option comes a certain amount of personal responsibility. But then I have always figured there are two ways of doing things: the wrong way and my way.

Ha! And ironically its only gotten worse since Bill Gates is no longer at the helm - wouldn't want to begin to understand how they managed that...

With "Linux" being Gentoo. The other Linuces always take certain choices for granted.

That's the whole point, choices. If you don't like them you can change them or pick a different distro (a distribution is not 'Linux' itself) depending upon how much you know and how much effort you are willing to expend. DistroWatch is a great menu unless you really want to put in effort and build your own which is certainly possible.

I'm sure Gentoo also makes some choices for the user.

Gentoo is basically "the kernel source code, a Python-powered list of links to application software repositories and GCC". GCC is the only real requirement here.

Anyhow, "application software repositories" sounds very much like someone is making choices for the end user.

One of the things Gentoo does is to provide alternatives even for quite basic system software like sysklogd. The aim is to give users and sysadmins maximum choice.

The end user does not have to use the repositories. There are always pkgsrc, Guix, Nix and others.

Well, that goes for all Unix-like distros.

I installed Windoze 10 in a pretty new VirtualBox. I have 4 VTs in XFCE, with 2 screens, but I can't access any of them. Under top, which I had running, Virtualbox never sank below 100%, spending most of it's time between 120 - 130%. I tried running Netflix under Edge last night. I got sound, but I couldn't get a real picture. It was blocks on the screen with ~10% being written each time. Other OSes run normally and are productive enough, while being sluggish.

The version of windows that I used was an iso from 2016 of Windows business 64bit, and my personal impression is that the accumulated updates killed it off entirely.
