Talking I'm new to dungeon & dragons table top games, is HB's selection any good?

For some time I've been interested in what a table top adventure game like D&D are like to play. I do like some of the video games on Linux for the genre. The only real way to tell is to actually get a set.
I saw this offer from Humble Bundle and wanted to know if it was a deal or a set of underselling books with no sense of imagination doomed to give me the wrong impression of the genre?
In case that it's not obvious:
I'm interested in experienced , not fighting and biting.

Thanks!
