I'm back after a long hiatus....

Man it's been 7 years since I posted here last...and some posts go back further.

Of course now I'm married with a little 16 month old daughter so I doubt I'll be posting that much anyways...those 2 keep me busy as it is! But still wanted to pop in and say hi and that I'm going through a bit of Linux resurrection in my life.

First of all, been running a Debian 6.0 file server (Samba) that has served me well for many many years. Still going now BUT, it's going to be getting some pretty nice hardware updates and a much larger hard drive to hold the massive amounts of data my wife and I can accumulate over a 10 year span. Still waiting on a few pieces of hardware before that happens. And of course I will get the latest Debian install too.

I have also been starting to dabble in Linux desktop usage. Well technically on an old 7 year old Windows 7 laptop. Giving Linux Mint a try and so far it's going fine. I used Linux as a desktop 10+ years ago with varying experiences. I think with work, I ended up kinda switching back to Windows. BUT, I'm willing to give Linux a shot again for my normal everyday use. Big things really are web browsing (easy one), occasional music/demo recording, and video editing for youtube. I am just sort of exploring the Linux options for video editing.

I suppose maybe both...even though I've ran Linux the whole time. Mainly to LQ.

BUT I kinda think Linux as well. Back to using it as a desktop once again and refreshing some old knowledge by redoing my file server.

Even just the brief time I've used it now, I have seen some definite improvements in the desktop side of it from when I used it 10+ years ago. I remember I used to have to manually mount a USB flash drive...now it automatically picks that up.
