so if china uses MS software to trap dissidents, leading to their unlawful imprisonment there's nothing that MS can do,
but,
if I use Windows to copy one of my own CD's I'm some sort of criminal and they must produce code to protect the poor media industry against me
On the one hand, China isn't a democracy so it's not right to punish the people for their government's actions. On the other hand, the massive amount of money we're contributing to their economy is helping the communist regime stay in power. I don't know where you draw the line, but the response from MS and Cisco shows how greedy and ruthless these companies really are:
Microsoft told The Observer: "We are focused on delivering the best technology to people throughout the world. However, how that technology is used is with the individual and ultimately not in the company's control."
Sounds a lot like the arms dealers who sold machine guns to the mob and then claimed it wasn't their fault everyone at the Italian restaurant got slaughtered. They were just delivering the best technology.
Cisco Systems... said: "If the government of China wants to monitor the internet, that's their business. We are politically neutral."
Sounds a lot like the Swiss bankers who accepted Nazi gold refined from the teeth of Auschwitz victims. They were just being politically neutral.

I agree with you that the communist government of china can do whatever they want cuz the people dont have much say and the US is keeping them in power and if Democracy ever happens in China it would mean sure doom for the US, Japanese, and other countries Economies because then the chinese people would demand Fair Enviromental and Labor laws which would really hamper the Capitalists ability to exploit children and the environment in china but i dont agree with the dealer analogy, you can give anything you want to anybody, its not the sellers responsibility how it is used it is ultimately the user that blame should be put on no matter what product it is.

That damn Billy Gates. Look at all the evil he started.
He enflamed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, started World War I and II, caused the French Revolution, and is primarily responsible for global warming. I suggest we boycott any product that even REMOTELY resembles or references Microsoft.
