HP to ship notebook with preloaded Linux

jamaso; yep hp & ibm are & have supporters of unix/linux long time. least
some biggeis are supporting linux(us).wow!

Nope. IBM shipped laptops with Linux in 2000. See Computerworld june 19 /2000 for details. Also the DVD /RW and wireless are not supported.
It's a step in the right direction though. Hopefully other manufacturers will jump in.

well for me is a tad late for i bought already a HP notebook (hoping to get my hands on slack 10 soon to see what else works) but it sure is good to know that other people won't go through what we did, believe, i even believe that someone down at HP headquarters might have seen some of the negative stuff been posted here about them and decided to change it for the better :-)

jamaso; do not think so, have been following HP for years and since their
boss-lady things have changed for better towards linux. they use unix & linux servers, assuming from that they maybe have been impressed how much better these systems work compared to bill,s wnt. that would be an
"A"+ for linux & unix.
