Really, would it be possible to have the entire yearbook in PDF format and include a CD or DVD in each yearbook? You could make it searchable so people could jump right to the section they were looking for...
TheOther1's idea is great, you should totally multimediaize (not a real word) it. Also, some gratuitous cheerleader up-skirt shots would make me buy one.
Why not start a rumour that you have compromising pictures of good looking teachers in it and then sell it sealed? People would have to buy it.
And yes, I'm not a school and I'm not American (so this whole Yearbook thing makes me shake my head ) but if you want horny kids to buy it then that's what it'll take - just start a rumour, though, don't actually follow it through. You may be able to add verisimilitude to the story by getting a few teachers on board - you know, have them talking about it just above a whisper when people walk by, have them start a rumour that the Principal is considering banning it, stuff like that.
You could also do a "Year in Pictures" kind of thing in MacroMedia Flash and include sports footage, dances, anything that was captured as video, sound or photos... You can do a lot with Flash so you could include a table of contents with names, events, etc. I don't know how many books you are planning on printing, but I would bet if you do 1,000 or so, you could get the CD down to under $0.10 if you didn't go wild on the labels.
Keep in mind the CD would need to be completed well before the books went to press so they could add a CD in a holder to the binding process. Timing may be difficult since I don't think there is much time between final revisions of the book and printing. Oh yea, you will also need to supply the viewers(s) for whatever format(s) you decide on and for several platforms; WinDoze, Mac & OSX, Linux...
Not porn, just the thread got subverted in a really obvious way (and I am as guilty of that as anyone). The original question was really "how to make the yearbook interesting enough to be bought?".
Yeah, lets refrain from talking about porn in this thread. This is not the time or place to discuss such things, especially ones that are illegal of matter since I'm assuming this is for a high school year book and most likely 90% of the girls are under the age of 18.
Either post constructively with real life answers to help the person asking the question or don't post at all. Anymore porn comments this thread will be closed immediately.
If anyone has a problem with this warning, feel free to email me your comments or arguments.
i dont think we'd get a thousand copies, this is a small school.
Then you could possibly burn them yourself. Yourself meaning the school, not you personally. It would give the kids in the computer lab something to do, but at the same time there would be pirated copies all over the place...
You may want to google for cd duplication services. I found this one and this one with a quick search. I'm sure if you shop around you can find better prices but looks like about $3.00 each for 100 - 300.

original connotation of question was for suggestions. i guess its my fault for not specifying my terms. please not more pron-related answers, this don't help me at all.
out of the 12 posts in this thread, less than half are worth while. i appreciate your input, but this is a highschool yearbook, not some x-rated magazine!
our school got a radio station to sponsor the yearbook last year with our "new technology" cd's included you could get one of their "impossible to copy" cd's for $10 and the radio station came and broadcasted form a big assembly, the only problem was it was WIFC which is a pop station and only about 5% of the kids could stand listening through the 2 hours
edit
forgot to add the obvious suggestion of this post, contact your local radio stations if theres one a lot of kids in your school like and get a popular DJ to come and sign yearbooks with everybody, the station will probably like the publicity and do it free while you get the administration to do an assembly that gets people out of class and excited about the yearbook, show part of your year in pictures CD if its any good and make soem speeches about the year generally just try to get a good time and people will buy it
