[SOLVED] How to get iPad keyboard to come up, in noVNC, at LinuxZoo.net?

Hi. Please be patient! I know ZERO about Linux &computer OS/etc. But, I might like to learn.

Attached is LinuxZoo.net JavaScript VNC session picture (taken by power+HomeButton on iPad).
It is a Safari web session. Touchpad works, but I can't get the keyboard, in noVNC.

Update in post #8: Android: similar or worse.
Thanks in advance.

Update: the 2nd picture is a different and UNrelated scenario, but shows telnet working.

Now that this has been moved, (sorry!), could it be made a Zero Reply Thread again, so someone with an iPad could find it?

Thanks for the "welcome". I do fully believe too!

Hi...

No problem. I don't think that can be done, since there already have been two replies, including this post. However, to be sure, you can contact Jeremy or one of the moderators here to see if this is possible. I wouldn't object to my two posts being removed if it would help.

I made the mistake of asking Jeremy to make you a Moderator so YOU could do that.
And out came, ummm, hostility. Sorry.
I came back here, to edit-out my last non-Linux sentence about belief, but you had
accidentally unintentionally locked it in by quoting it. No blame intended at all.
I trust that there's always a good reason for whatever happens.

Again, I take the blame for dragging this off of my original Linux topic.

Maybe my becominging a Contributing member will be a slight ammends.

I have been reading this site as a guest for half a year, and had high hopes.
I have seen new first posters ask what I have come to realize as inappropriate questions like
How to do something that a simple, even one word, Google would answer

I did try for several days to find my answer.

Hi...

I'm not sure what would cause him to be upset if he was but I don't think you did anything wrong, at least from what I've seen on my end. Lord willing, I wouldn't accept the position of moderator on LQ, anyway.

EDIT: Oh, you're referring to the thread here. I see what you mean now, I thought you emailed Jeremy as I suggested in my previous post.

Yes, for "religious reasons," I'm not popular with some of the folks here.

I honestly didn't see your comment as bad but I've found that all non-linux comments and questions are frowned upon except in the "General" forum, which is where this thread is anyway. So no worries there.

Your contribution does help the site and I'm sure it's appreciated.

And that's fine, sometimes answers aren't so readily obtained on Google. Thank you for researching the issue first.

I don't think that invitation would ever extended.

That, and the fact that you offer very little actual help to people, and have actually caused numerous posters to get LESS help with your behavior.

Why does this surprise you??? Did you not ever bother to read the forum rules about staying on topic(s)???

This is a well-known issue on the Apple forums..one of many threads found by putting "ipad safari javascript problems" into Google. 5,500 on the Apple forums alone:
https://discussions.apple.com/thread...rt=30&tstart=0

In short, iPads have problems with Javascript.

I finally got brave enough to click View Post. I see I missed the obvious searchword
Even better than JavaScript is noVNC as searchword: ipad keyboard novnc
second result is: https://github.com/kimchi-project/kimchi/issues/53
Could that be changed, to make this work? Maybe not, because the same happens in Chrome.
So there is probably no use in my looking for FireFox for iPad, since the problem is apparently inside the iPad, not app.
I wonder if there is another way for that github noVNC to do what it says: use vnc instead of vnc_auto ... Sorry, I have no idea what I'm talking about.
But then we'd need to get linuxzoo to install this new trial noVNC. Maybe not possible.

Maybe it works on Android
Does anyone have an Android tablet or phone, &want to try? 123456 No, that is not my email.

Thanks. I guess there is always hope.

Yes, and we are always happy to help, but there is only so much we can do...this is NOT a Linux problem, and there's no way to make it work from the 'server side' (web site) of things, since your iPad is the culprit.

If you do want to play with Linux, the best suggestion would be to use it on your actual computer, and you have options for that. The easiest thing by FAR is to just download a live Linux distro, burn it onto a USB stick, and boot from it. Your computer itself isn't changed at all, but you're running a REAL Linux system. Try it, and see if you like it.

Slightly more difficult, but still pretty easy, is to load Virtualbox https://www.virtualbox.org/wiki/Downloads on either Windows or Mac. It creates a virtual PC on your existing system. Load Linux to it through the installer program. Again, your 'real' computer isn't changed, but you will have an entire Linux system running in a window on your machine. Looks and acts nearly identical to a physical machine, and is perfect for learning.

A new user would be best served by loading Linux Mint, in my opinion. You can load it to a USB stick (directions: http://www.everydaylinuxuser.com/201...-mint-usb.html) and download the appropriate version here: https://www.linuxmint.com/download.php

I only have the iPad, borrowed from relative. Zero money, literally, sorry.

I meant to say Thank you, in prior post.

Does that github link mean someone could fix noVNC?

There is a near worthless because 7" 1G/16G Win8.1 tablet which someone would give me.
By any zero-likely chance, if I sent it to you, would you want to put Linux on it?

Do you have access to an Android phone? xx@yy.com 123 is a demo zoo login!

Nothing to apologize for...we've all been there.

No need..that's what the community forum is for, helping.

Maybe, but probably not. Apple/iPads are pretty well locked down, so unless Apple decides something CAN/should be fixed, it won't be.

Nope, sorry. If that tablet can be booted from USB, you can load Linux on it yourself. Check the manual to see if it supports that, and if so, you can easily do it yourself.

Yes, I do, but that's fairly pointless, isn't it??? If you have a Windows 8.1 tablet, you can log in using *IT* on that website, since it DOES support Java. If all you have is the iPad, it doesn't matter if Android works, and if you have access to an Android tablet, you can try it yourself and find out. Any of the three options negate the need for me to try it on my devices.

I dug up an old ZTE Zinger 4.4.2 It worked Similar/worse.

Says kernel 3.4.0 Can Linux be put on this, simply? I vaguely remember the word rooting, but haven't begun to research. Touch keys way too small tho.

I didn't want to try Windows, but maybe will ask to try that 7" tablet.

Thanks again. Probably time to Solved this Thread

Update. I asked for that tablet. Got told we have ad-hoc wi-fi. Go do this
https://confluence.qps.nl/plugins/se.../view/42311777
Need http://www.howtogeek.com/235101/10-w...in-windows-10/
Ok, I'll do Windows shell scripting, After you dual-boot Kali on YOUR cellphone. Ok?
I typed it all in manually and internet works! ren it it.cmd made script runable! Easy! Now:
noVNC immediately just says, as top-title of its webpage: Server disconnected (code:1006)
Trying a fresh linux install didn't help. Maybe net issue. telnet works great, but I wanted the Linux X11 GUI or whatever you call it. GUI has no name on iPad, it just IS the iPad. I guess iPad has no shell. Edit: I just learned to replace win with GUI. X11 on iPad? On Android cell?

Is there any other way *I* can get the Linux GUI to "appear" on my iPad?
A different zoo-like site?

I searched for: ipad x11, found&tried eXceed,
but linuxzoo.net doesn't "respond to :5500" which eXceed uses.
(the zoo noVNC url has a long, complex 443 url)

I believe that this LinuxGUIonIpad CAN be done, because:
in the same building (whatismyip.com showing same address),
I can watch on my iPad: someone do the full Linux GUI on zoo noVNC, on a PC!
The iPad touchscreen CAN click CentOS's Applications SystemTools Terminal,
and successfully bring that up, showing up on both!!!
(by my using same zoo account &clicking same noVNC as PC, using PC keyboard for typing)
Just no iPad keyboard, because of above#8 github bug.

Another way of saying this: is there a site into which I could do this :5500 X?
Maybe someone wants to make one; sounds like a great guru project!

Right...because zoo is a website....eXceed is an X windows emulator, designed for local networks/servers, for X windows sessions.

And a PC IS NOT AN iPad, is it? Again, as said before, your iPad does not run javascript, and CANNOT, will not, be able to work on that site.

VNC/X emulator is different than website access. Not the same, not going to work.

No
