How to backup outlookxp mail account?

Is it located at any file or in the registry?

Gonna write a program to auto backup mails and accounts from outlookxp to evolution.

if you mean to backup your email that you receive through a pop email account using outlook as your client then you need to just need to backup the .pst file your mail is stored in.

No, refering to email accounts. Googled everywhere to no avail

Hello M8,

Im assuming by outlookxp you mean outlook express, if not & Im wrong then just ignore this post.

Mail Accounts:

If you open outlook and got to the "Tools" menu and choose "Accounts"
from the drop down list, the "Internet Accounts" dialogue box will open
Click on the "Mail" tab this will show all ypur mail accounts simply select
each one in turn and click the "Export" button will allow you to chose
where to save the files which have the .iaf extension.
When you want to replace them again just follow the same proceedure as above
but choose the "Import" button instead.
Your email account passwords are not transferred, you will have to re-enter them the first time you use OE to send or receive emails.

Mail Messages:

To back these up open My Computer and browse along this path,,,,

C:\Documents and Settings\Scott\Local Settings\Application Data\Identities\{C2L44C25-4H79-4F62-A6AD-D40C8C2EBA53}\Microsoft\Outlook Express
in the outlook Express folder you will see a lot of .dbx files
these are the folders you see when you open OE.
To back it up, I simply zip it up and save it elsewhere then simply return
the files to the same location when I need them.

Notes:

1/ Obviously "Scott" is my username & yours will be different,,
2/ The folder "Local Settings" is hidden and you will need to go to
"Tools" menu in "My Computer" and choose "Folder Options" then the "Folder Options"
dialogue box will open Click on the "View" tab and select "Show hidden files and folders"
Click "Apply" & "OK" you will now see slightly faded Files and folers, these are the
previously hidden ones. you should be able to see the "Local Settings" folder now.
3/ Similar to above "{C2L44C25-4H79-4F62-A6AD-D40C8C2EBA53}" this folder is related to my profile yours should have a different number.
4/ I have tried to explain this in as much detail as possible to avoid any confusion as I dont know your level of knowledge or skill,
I dont mean to insult your intelligence either, however if I managed to do that then I apologise in advance.

PS do you also know how to back up your favourites and your Address Book?

Sorry for not making myself clear. I was refering to Microsoft Outlook XP aka 2002.

I found this info for you, it doesnt give anything on the location of the .IAF files/data though

Outlook account settings

To transfer the saved files to the target system, use the import button in the same dialog as the one from which you saved the settings.

You can use a trick to transfer files to Outlook XP and 2003: firstly, import the .IAF files to Outlook Express using Tools/Accounts/Email/Import and then transfer those settings to Outlook.

Choose Outlook's own File/Import/Export command from the menus, activate the Internet Mail Account settings option and select Microsoft Outlook Express as the import source.

I searched my registry (cos I got interested in the location of this data)
Anyway my search string was iaf and after pressing F3 a few times I found these keys:
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32\OpenSaveMRU\iaf
and
HKEY_USERS\S-1-5-21-436374069-113007714-854245398-1003\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\ComDlg32\OpenSaveMRU\iaf

Which did in fact contain my internet account file (iaf) names.
