Is there a particular search or setting?

If I look at my posts or find other posts option, it stops with 1,001 entries and hence sometime during 2020

Advanced search, by user name, change "and newer" to "and older" and change "in descending order" to "in ascending order"

DavidMcCann 08-26-2022 11:12 AM

It does indeed restrict you to 1001, like Arabian Nights. You could try searching for your name in "Member Introductions", if you did introduce yourself. I assumed my first post would be a question and "My Threads" showed one 5 months after joining in 2006: https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...orrect-499777/ Unsolved, like so many :(

I'm quite recent to the forums, but have been using Linux as my main system since 1999.

What is the cutoff year to be considered an old-timer?

wpeckham 08-26-2022 06:03 PM

20 years ?
That would be a year before the op that started this thread.

I haven't been about to find my first post, but

I started visiting regularly a few months earlier and registered in order to ask my first Linux Question.

Where is trickykid? My bet is on trickykid to be the oldest still active member.

michaelk 08-26-2022 09:33 PM

trickykid has not been active in several years. I have not searched for my first post yet but it was around Aug 2002 when I first registered.

I'm going to fill up my bathtub and soak in it.

brianL 08-27-2022 11:17 AM

Apart from my introductory post, this is my first "useful" post (not many of those followed :) ).

Being rated a veteran, like you (or a guru or a member of the 5K club).

i think the BBS where i first posted is totally vapor by now. it was around 1981. i can't remember the exact date. i was asking how many people in the area worked on mainframes. that was a word back then. the one and only reply was someone saying they had seen one, once.

i did have an Apple II back then. i have no idea what the BBS ran on but only one person could dial in at a time.

John VV 09-09-2022 10:12 PM

i do not remember the post nor date but i had Fedora 4 installed

scasey 09-09-2022 11:20 PM

I'm registered as a guru but I haven't been here as long as some in this thread. I started using Linux around the beginning of the century. In those days I hung out at Linux Forums. It was a fine community, but the site was badly managed and eventually became so infested with scriptware that FF refused to take me there! So I came here instead. That would have been sometime in the last decade. The LF website no longer exists.

Pagonis 09-12-2022 05:02 AM

"01-03-08" back when Windows (XP and Vista) sucked major balls and was too poor to afford a Mac.
