Seven?!? I remember installing Slackware from 4 way back when. Of course that wasn't the whole distibution, that was just what I needed to get started at the time.

Same here. Slackware, back in late '93. I think it was verstion 1.1.0 or something like that. I do remember the kernel wasn't even 1.0 yet (.99something). It did have XFree, though, and I remember how amazed I was when I actually got that working (with FVWM).

Anyone remember how hard it was to configure XFree back then? You'd better have the technical manuals for your monitor and video card in order to calculate the right mode lines and such. What a chore! But so worth it!

I seem remember a LOT more than seven (or four) floppies, though. Maybe that was even before my time.

I tried it once then.....
Took me a few years more to overcome the frustration.
