How easy is it to get a bios upgrade??
 

I am so f*&ki** angry. I wanted to upgrade a bios on an Award MB at work. Clearly they have merged with Pheonix and do not allow indiscriminate downloads of Bios {ii?} ---- I had to fill in an online form. That, in itself, is no problem. I also had to wait for them to contact me with details of the upgrade I wanted. Fine. No Problem. What I don't understand is the price ------ to quote >

I have a box that seems to have a failed bios. I just want to replace it. I'd like to replace it with an updated version of the bios. What's going on?? Should I have to pay for this?

Have you checked the motherboard manufacturer site? You are just updating the bios right? You don't actually need the chip?
I think if a motherboard company pulled this it would be the last time I bought a motherboard from them.

I think there are more sites like that one. Some require passwords, some don't.

Make sure to get the right BIOS version! If you flash your BIOS with a version from a slightly different motherboard your computer turns into an expensive door stop.

You don't have to pay for a BIOS upgrade. You might try

more information on upgrading, since it can be tricky and
you only get one shot at it. Usually, it is best to go to the
motherboard manufacturer's website to get the download.
I have an ASUS motherboard, so I go to the ASUS site for
a BIOS upgrade.

I got mine for free from the motherboard's site. And never cancel the BIOS upgrade! I'm sure the program itself will mention it again but well you can't be sure enough ;)

LOL I was at work in the middle of a BIOS upgrade when the lights went out. It was a nice chair/footrest for a while. :cool:
