how does YT round corners of images and videos?

i did this long ago but it turned out to be very complex. the goal was to make images have round corners that show the background color.

i see that YouTube has lots of round corners (unless watching full screen) ant do this for both pictures and videos. i was wondering if someone knows how they do it. is HTML now advanced enough to have it built-in? do they have some Javascript code that can take care of it? is it something else?

Done with CSS - https://www.w3schools.com/css/css3_borders.asp

Basically the "Mouse-Over" can have CSS that removes the rounded border, so it's all done in the browser.
