How do you remember?
When you learn new things how do you remember? Do you use memory techniques? Do you scribble down notes on paper. Do you keep notes in a directory for reference. Or do you just have a photographic memory?
I try to keep notes and review them.

I usually just forget and look stuff up again. Sometimes I do write stuff to files. And I also just let stuff seep into my head. I find if I try to remember stuff I often fail. If I don't try I *sometimes* succeed. For instance, there's no way I can memorize a zillion keyboard shortcuts but if I just need ctrl-a often enough and happen to get it right, then I can kind of unconsciously reach for those keys again next time. And the more I do, the more it sinks in. That sort of thing.

I don't have a photographic memory, but I don't use memory techniques to remember stuff. If you go over it enough, it becomes ingrained - you don't need to learn how to remember to speak or walk. Some things, like info on (biological) viruses, I needed to read several times before it sank in, but it's there now, and it'll stay.

I also tend to go over something until it becomes natural to recall it. Unfortunately, it's kind of pointless for things that change a lot, like grocery lists and so on. In those cases, I write them down...well, actually, most of the time I end up going back to finish what I forgot...over, and over, and over again.

Ha ha, that usually happens to me, but I wander around aimlessly for half an hour, get frustrated and sit back down, and by then it comes back to me.............then the whole vicious cycle starts all over again.
