I will make sure to have my survival knife with me, as well as a few other things. However, I think I will be just as disappointed as on Y2K when I brought a flashlight and didn't even need it.

My calender ends at the end of December, every single year. If I was depending on the Mayan one, I suspect that I'd have a lot of trouble of going out and finding one for next year.

Yeah, it's quite ridiculous to believe that the end of the Mayan calendar means the end of the world, when no such things was ever implied, and due to miscalculations of the end of the calendar. Still, the end of the world is when people decide. If crazed believers decide to end themselves and others on the day of apocalypse, I want to be prepared for them.

Don't know, don't care. The Australian calender is full for next year so I'm planning on New Years Day, Australia Day, ANZAC Day, Good Friday, Easter Sunday, Easter Monday, Queens Birthday, October Long Weekend, etc. Thats just for starters because there are also Birthdays etc and school holidays mixed in among them. I haven't got time to worry about the end of the Mayan world, not that it's really been functioning all that well since the Spanish conquest of South America. A more pressing issue is what is going on in the current world.

I'd think the calendar was wrong. It was supposed to be the 23rd.

The Mayan and many other religions have some sort of end of world deal. They generally don't suggest that all live on earth will end, only most.

How many times is the world going to end according to the Mayan calendar? Haven't we already been through this more than once? We're all still here.

Interesting way of phasing that. Subtle shade of meaning there? Or not native speaker of English?

How would we find out it is going to be true?

If it happens, by definition that is too late to react.

So find out it is going to be true, like some Mayan god suddenly breaks hundreds of years of silence to make a very convincing announcement that it is all almost over? I guess I'd be slightly more surprised than I would be if Obama turned out to be a good President (amazing after the election how fast the media switched from "if Obama has four more years, he can fix the economy" to "of course the recession is going to get deeper now, but that won't be Obama's fault, it will be because of Republican's in the House")

Meanwhile, I wasted far too much time (long ago) on unnecessary investigation of software for Y2K issues. I'm not going to investigate how well the software I support would handle the end of the world, nor even how well it would handle the end of the Mayan calendar.
