I found that the options did not accurately state my case. I prefer Open Source software but it is rare these days that there is no option so to be blunt, I use what works best for me. In fact I think that's healthy for FOSS. Otherwise there grows a tendency to accept mediocrity. I actually am confident that FOSS can compete with Proprietary with no inherent need for subsidizing. I just choose a platform where the need for anything proprietary is as limited as possible - Linux.

Today, I had my first encounter with the new Opera on my daughter's Windows box. It was . . . disturbing. I think I now understand this.

Sadly, I've had to abandon Opera. Like you, I really like the old version, but the new one just isn't what I want (also being diplomatic ;) ). What struck me at the time was: if Opera had been Open Source, such a radical change of direction would have resulted in a fork, and I wouldn't have lost the use of a long cherished application.
